Job summary To provide structured support to individual children aged 0-16 years on the Burns ward that have been identified as having specific problems.
To monitor, prioritise and manage individual caseloads within designated teams or as directed by Burns Ward Sister and or Burns Lead Nurse.This post will participate as a professional member of the Burns Team and contribute to the care of the patients of the Trust as part of the multidisciplinary team relating to their all-round cultural and diversity, developmental and emotional needs.Children and their families will receive a high standard of care encompassing all their developmental and specialist play needs referred as inpatients or outpatients.
Standards of clinical care are maintained and developed.
Sensitive, complex and distressing situations are dealt with accordingly.
Main duties of the job Undertake assessments of patients.
Complete appropriate documentation.
Assess the communication needs of patients Plan and implement the required treatment .
Provide support to children/young people and their families who have sustained a Burn Injury.
Participate and support with Burn Prevention Activities and Events.
Ensure that the environment is conducive to meeting the needs of the child and family Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, reviews etc.
Document and report any concerns relating to child protection issues as appropriate.
Communicate the views of children, young people and their families To work with children/young people with additional needs To act in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Standards - Healthcare Play Specialist Education Trust (HPSET) and National Association of Health Play Specialist (NAHPS).
Maintain Profession Registration - Healthcare Play Specialist Education Trust (HPSET).
To co-ordinate the running of the local Paediatric Burns Support Group, Enzos Friends, and have involvement in the British Burn Association (BBA), Speacialist Interest Groups and camps Sensitive, complex and distressing situations are dealt with accordingly.
Participate in continuing development to develop the knowledge and skills required for the post.

Person Specification Qualifications and experience Essential Foundation Degree in Healthcare Play Specialism, Registered Play Specialist Certificate - Specialist Hospital Play Certificate or Hospital Play Specialist Examination Board Certificate or BTEC Certificate in continuing education in Hospital Play Specialism Evidence of continued professional development Relevant training and/or experience with over 8's 3 -5 years' experience in a childcare setting Evidence of Professional Registration (HPSET) Knowledge and experience of the effects of hospitalisation Knowledge in hospital-based issues, assessment, and structure plans of intervention Knowledge of developmental, therapeutic play, preparation and distraction for all age hospitalised children Experience working with parents and carers Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team and with other agencies Experience with children/young people with additional needs Experience dealing with difficult and distressing situations Able to evaluate and reflect on own practice Enthusiastic in all aspects of professional and personal development Able to support students and volunteers and Burns Play worker Able to liaise with professionals of all levels Experience working with children/young people in a hospital setting Prepared to undertake further training Desirable Evidence of continued learning and development in specialist play skills Experience of working with children/young people with Burn Injuries Childcare qualification equivalent to level 3 , NNEB, B-Tec level 3 Food Hygiene, Manual Handling, Basic Life, etc.
Experience teaching, training, assessing and supervising students and volunteers of all levels Knowledge of issues relating to governance Familiar with referral systems/patient related record keeping Analyse the use of virtual reality, multi-media and different forms of distraction Able to collect Data and give feedback to Service Managers
