Our Governance and Legal team provides essential legal expertise, supporting the organization's mission to deliver compassionate care for those with terminal illnesses and their families.
This small, collaborative team of pragmatic legal professionals works together to balance risk management with achieving the charity's strategic goals.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you'll provide high-quality, cost-effective legal support across the organization, with a focus on contracts covering a wide range of the charity's activities, spanning technology, healthcare, fundraising and beyond.
You will also be expected to advise upon data protection, and regulatory compliance issues.
Acting as a trusted advisor, you'll collaborate with senior colleagues across various functions to help ensure Marie Curie's activities remain aligned with legal requirements and strategic objectives.
Your role will be vital in helping Marie Curie achieve its goals of expanding influence, enhancing care, and building financial resilience.
Main responsibilities: Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, serving as a trusted legal advisor.
Draft, review, and negotiate a range of contractual agreements, ensuring alignment with the charity's objectives.
Proactively assess legal risks, offer practical advice, and implement mitigation strategies.
Support internal clients in managing legal risks by providing training and best practices.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, including charity law, data protection, and commercial regulations.
Supervise and mentor junior legal colleagues, contributing to a collaborative and development-focused team culture.
Key Criteria: Qualified solicitor with in-depth knowledge of contract and commercial law and a solid foundation in data protection.
Extensive experience as in-house or private practice counsel in complex or regulated environments.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to advise and hold senior stakeholders accountable.
Proven track record in managing multiple priorities and using a risk-based approach to maximize organizational benefits.
Familiarity with the charity, health, or social care sectors is an advantage.

Salary: £75,000 - 85,000 depending on experience Contract: Fixed-term contract (12 months), full-time (35 hours per week) Consideration would be given to candidates who wish to work substantial part-time hours of at least four days per week (28 hours per week, salary would be pro-rated accordingly).
