Up and Under Ltd, a member of the RSK Group have opportunities for Senior Bridge Inspectors/Examiners to join our team managed from our head office in Crewe, Cheshire. This is a permanent, full-time position. Current openings include posts in both our conventional and specialist access teams.
Our works are spread throughout the UK which allows the successful candidate to utilise hybrid/ working from home, or from one of our many alternative RSK offices throughout the country.The successful candidate will be working towards qualification or have successfully qualified in, the Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) to Senior Inspector level or Network Rail STE levels.

Support and guidance will be given to those working towards the schemes by in house staff and assessors.Responsibilities: Management of individually assigned projects (including strategic, complex and large projects) to ensure that the Company provides a high-quality service in all areas of the project, meeting the requirements of our customers and ensuring a high standard of cooperation with our suppliers.Tasked with delivering projects on time, within programme while maintaining high safety standard.Inspection of a variety of structures including those of nationally strategic importanceLeading inspection teams and mentoring/guiding other lower grade staffPreparation, checking and authorising of reports / drawings / schedules of defectsAiding the Project Estimator in assessing the capability of the company to undertake works and providing knowledge to ensure competitive tenders/quotes are submitted.All the work we complete adheres to our comprehensive quality, health and safety systems, we are ISO compliant.The role will involve hybrid working and site-based projects with the balance dependent on the commercial requirements of the business.Where possible we aim to assign work local to an inspector's base.
However, there may be a requirement to work away from home with travel throughout the UK, therefore a full UK driving licence is required.
Night and weekend work will be required on occasion, where additional overtime rates will apply.Essential Requirements:Experience of bridge inspection/examination or maintenance to a senior level (Highways or rail.
We may consider candidates with other structural inspection experience if it is relevant)Sound technical understanding of construction materials and formsGood mentoring and leadership skills, with proven experienceGood basic office IT skills including word / excel /databases / CAD / web research / email / file managementWell organised, focused and able to work with and motivate othersInterested in the fundamentals of engineering and able to communicate that to othersProven high quality report writing skills, experience in checking and authorising reportsKnowledge / experience of investigation methods of common construction materialsA full UK driving licenceCandidates are required to have a reasonable level of fitness as the work can involve walking over rough terrain, up and down steps and steep embankments, the use of ladders and scaffold and potentially adverse weather conditions.Preferable Qualifications:HND/Degree in relevant construction disciplineNVQ in relevant construction disciplineIEng or CEngBICS (Senior Inspector)STE02, 03, 04, 05 or 07any combination of the aboveSuccessful candidates will undertake drug and alcohol screening prior to and during employment.
