Role Overview: Underwriters play a critical role in assessing risk factors to determine whether to accept or decline risks, as well as setting appropriate pricing to align with the company's risk appetite and business objectives.
In this position, you will work largely independently with minimal supervision, using established processes to solve routine or standard problems.
You will collaborate across various teams, primarily at the same level, and may provide support to colleagues with less experience.
Key Responsibilities: Deliver High-Quality Work : Produce work that adheres to underwriting guidelines, policies, and agreed deadlines, while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
Operate independently within established practices, processes, rules, and regulations.
Build Subject Matter Expertise : Begin developing expertise in assigned areas, taking ownership of tasks and proactively finding solutions to problems.
Problem Solving : Tackle routine or standard issues using established procedures or guidelines.
More complex tasks may be assigned under supervision.
Stakeholder Engagement : Provide information and advice on specific tasks, clearly communicating ideas and opinions both in writing and verbally.
Handle verbal referrals and manage telephony-based queries.
Skills Development and Knowledge Transfer : Work independently within specific areas of underwriting, keep up with industry changes, and apply this knowledge as needed.
Participate actively in learning initiatives and help other underwriters develop their skills.
Share best practices with colleagues.
Work Within Financial Authority Limits : Operate within assigned financial authority levels and stay informed about the relevant products.
Required Skills and Experience: Experienced underwriter with strong knowledge of medical and financial aspects related to life cover, serious illness, and income protection products.
Familiarity with reinsurance and regulatory requirements in the industry.
This role is ideal for someone who can manage their workload independently while also contributing to team development and maintaining a high standard of underwriting practices.
