Job Title: Estimator Location: North Essex Industry: Construction Reports to: Senior Estimator / Estimator About the Client: Our client is a highly regarded and well-established construction company based in North Essex, specialising in delivering high-quality building projects with values of up to £30m.
With an excellent track record across a variety of sectors, they are looking to expand their team by recruiting a skilled Estimator to support the continued growth of the business.
Estimator Job Summary: As an Estimator, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of construction projects.
The Estimator will collaborate closely with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure that bids are precise, competitive, and fully aligned with project specifications.
Estimator Key Responsibilities: Cost Estimation: Develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for construction projects by reviewing and analysing drawings, specifications, and other tender documentation.
Tender Submissions: Interpret tender documents to ensure all client requirements are met, and that submissions are complete and accurate.
Cost Breakdown: Provide detailed cost breakdowns for materials, labour, plant, and subcontractors, ensuring all aspects of the project are thoroughly considered.
Liaising with Subcontractors and Suppliers: Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotes and assess the cost-effectiveness of various options.
Risk and Contingency Management: Identify potential risks and incorporate appropriate contingencies to account for any uncertainties in the project scope.
Site Visits: Attend site visits when required to gather additional information and clarify project scope, contributing to more accurate cost estimates.
Client and Internal Communication: Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure all project requirements are understood and reflected in the estimates.
Bid Preparation: Prepare professional, detailed tender submissions, including cost analysis, justifications, and all required supporting documentation.
Tracking Estimates: Monitor and update estimates throughout the tender process, adjusting for any changes in project scope, costs, or market conditions.
Market Awareness: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, including material costs and labour rates, to ensure that estimates remain competitive and aligned with current market conditions.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and organised records of all estimates, quotations, and tender documentation for future reference and auditing purposes.
Estimator Qualifications & Experience: Education: A degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: At least 3 years experience as an Estimator within the construction industry, ideally with a focus on Education and Commercial construction projects.
Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and cost structures.
Software Proficiency: Experience using estimation software and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to cost estimation, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Time Management: Proven ability to manage multiple estimates and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Driving Licence: A full, clean UK driving licence is desirable for occasional site visits.
Desired Attributes: Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage subcontractor relationships effectively.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess risks and opportunities within the estimating process.
Highly self-motivated with a proactive approach to work and professional development.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
