Job Title: Director, Assistant General Counsel (Employment) Department: Legal Location: London, UK The Position Barings is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Employment Solicitor for our London office to join our Global Legal Team.
The successful candidate will provide legal counsel and support on all employment-related matters across the jurisdictions in which we operate.
The Team's Mission The Global Legal mission is to serve as a trusted advisor to manage and mitigate legal risk for the company and partner with our clients to support legal needs.
Primary Responsibilities Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of employment laws, including recruitment practices, employee relations, separation agreements, compensation plans, and workplace policies.
Advise HR and other internal business clients on issues related to employee rights, benefits, and remuneration.
Draft, review, and update employment contracts, separation agreements, compensation plans, and policies to ensure compliance with local and national employment laws.
Represent the Company in employment disputes, including handling proceedings, with the assistance of external counsel, before employment tribunals and regulatory bodies.
Provide support for internal investigations regarding employee complaints, disciplinary actions, and potential breaches of Company policy.
Monitor and advise on legal developments in employment law, ensuring the Company remains compliant with evolving regulations.
Collaborate with external counsel as necessary to manage complex legal matters and litigation.
Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for internal business clients, including HR, on employment law compliance.
Qualifications Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 7-10 years PQE experience as an employment solicitor, with a preference for prior experience in a corporate in-house setting.
Comprehensive knowledge of UK employment laws and regulations, including the Equality Act and Employment Rights Act.
Familiarity with employment laws in the other jurisdictions the firm operates including other jurisdictions in EMEA and APAC.
Experience drafting and analysing compensation plans and policies, including the regulation of the same.
Experience drafting and negotiating contracts, including employment contracts, post-termination restrictions, and settlement agreements.
Experience with employment-related litigation and dispute resolution.
Self-starter with a flexible "can-do" mentality and commercial approach.
Build relationships with, and work alongside, business teams, including the HR, Compliance and Communications teams as well as members of the Legal Team, as appropriate.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing workloads of diverse matters in a timely manner.
