Role: Development Engineer Location: Staffordshire An exciting opportunity has opened for a Development Engineer to join a market leader in Defence within their Development Capability team.
This role is ideal for an engineer looking to broaden their technical skills across a range of engineering disciplines.
Role Overview: Reporting to the Development Lead Engineer, the successful candidate will play an essential role in supporting the development and testing of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical systems.
Working closely with project teams, they will undertake a variety of systems testing and engineering tasks to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities: Systems Testing and Development: Support projects with systems testing and development tasks, including: Designing and developing system test suites Conducting development and qualification testing Schematic capture and design Component selection, advising on options, and review Engineering Tasks: Perform engineering tasks as directed, contributing to project and business needs, including: Testing and laboratory evaluation of products Documenting work in line with local operating procedures Supporting on-site commissioning or trials, which may include overseas travel Communication and Documentation: Participate in internal and external meetings and prepare clear documentation of work completed.
Skills & Knowledge Experience in live testing of low-voltage ( Knowledge of digital and analogue circuit design (desirable) Basic understanding of software methodologies and programming (desirable) Familiarity with Health and Safety at Work Act (HASWA) and safe operating procedures Willingness to undertake diverse tasks, including design, documentation, testing, and occasional soldering and wiring Ability to organise and support qualification test programs (e.g., EMC, shock, vibration, climatic) Excellent presentation and report-writing skills for stakeholders and customers Ability to convey ideas clearly and work collaboratively with team members Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Flexible, with a proactive approach to change and innovation Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) Understanding of systems engineering methodologies, safety standards, and configuration control Qualifications Education: HNC/HND/BTEC or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience Additional: GCSEs (Grades A-C) in Maths and English or equivalent Other Requirements: Full driving licence Ability to travel to other UK or international locations as needed for off-site activities Willingness to work overtime or unsociable hours as required Note: The successful candidate must be eligible for relevant security clearance.
