Job summary West of England Hearing Implant ProgrammeClinical Scientist /Specialist Hearing Implant Audiologist Band 7Fixed Term, part-time post ( hours)We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Clinical Scientist /Audiologist to provide specialist audiological skills within the Hearing Implant Multi-Disciplinary Team.
The post holder will assess and manage predominately adults with a hearing loss from referral to post implant programming, maintenance and rehabilitation for all Hearing Implants including Cochlear Implants, BAHA and Middle Ear Implants.The post holder will be based at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol but as a regional service outreach clinics are held across the South West.Experience of different hearing implant devices is desirable.
Main duties of the job To be part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals based at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol providing high quality scientific and technical audiological input to the regional specialist West of England Hearing Implant Programme (WEHIP).Provide a comprehensive audiological assessment and ongoing management of adult hearing implant patients.To be involved in all aspects of the patient pathway from referral to post-implant programming, maintenance and rehabilitation for all Hearing Implants including Cochlear Implants, BAHA & Middle ear Implants.To work collaboratively with SLTs & team psychologist, in assessment, joint report writing, reviews and joint goal setting.Communicate effectively with patients with significant hearing loss.To consult with patients and their families/carers with empathy and understanding using excellent communication skills.Provide advice and support to patients and families on the maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment.Use advanced knowledge and experience of audiology to carry out comprehensive audiological assessment of referrals including patients with additional multiple disabilities and / or complex needs.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential MSc in Audiology or equivalent qualification to MSc level with a BSc in audiology or equivalent qualification Registered with the HCPC or RCCP Knowledge and Experience Essential Highly specialised knowledge of audiology acquired through a combination of experience and post-graduate/post-registration training such as that obtained through a master's degree, equivalent experience/qualification, significant formal training or research in paediatric and adult audiology Knowledge of data protection act and patient confidentiality Experience of assessing and treating adults with severe-profound learning losses and experience with complex social, behavioural or medical needs Hearing Implant experience Desirable Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in assessment, joint report writing, reviews and joint goal setting Skills and Abilities Essential Experience with audiology Patient Management System and Database systems such as Auditbase Excellent written, oral and interpersonal and communication skills Proficient in using routine NHS hearing aid fitting software and Implant software and associated medical devices Aptitudes Essential Able to work well under pressure and prioritise workload.
Able to react to issues that arise at short notice efficiently and calmly, using own initiative and judgment as necessary The post holder should be have excellent communication skills & be able to communicate complex information in a sensitive, empathic and professional manner Desirable The post holder should be an autonomous, self-directed and capable of completing the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description Exhibit good judgement and excellent decision making
