An exciting opportunity has become available within our Nuclear Operations Capability.
We are looking for a high calibre, motivated and experienced individual to join us as the Capability Leader (CL) for the Safety, Security, Safeguards and Human Factors capability teams.
In this role, you will lead specialist teams operating across multiple NNL locations and remotely.
The capability delivers a broad range of technical substantiation and underpinning against nuclear regulation for NNL's internal and commercial activities focussed on our facilities, operations and projects.
Due to the significant growth in NNL's operational and project workload there has been an increase in demand for these capabilities.
As a result, the capability has doubled in size, and we are seeking a Capability Leader to lead the current and future needs of the capability.
The capability specialises in underpinning regulatory aspects of facility, operational and project work supporting PMPs, HAZOPs/HAZANs, Engineering Substantiation, PSR through: Safety Security, Criticality, Shielding, Chemotoxic, Safeguards and Human Factors assessments.
The capability operates across NNL and collaborates with key customers, including HMG, Defence, EdF, NDA and Sellafield Ltd, supporting a number of key strategic areas in line with NNLs strategic purpose.
The successful candidate will ensure a clear line of sight of all EHSS&Q responsibilities and the availability of 'ready for service' resource to support customer delivery while maintain strong relationships with customers and all touch points throughout the organisation.
The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley, Workington or Sellafield.
Main Responsibilities for Capability Leader for Safety, Security, Safeguards and Human Factors: EHSS&Q Accountabilities The CL will be accountable for EHSS&Q within their Capability: Understand and comply with all relevant standards and expectation in relation to EHSSQ and Nuclear Professionalism.
Duty of care for all staff identified.
Delivery of projects, programmes and technical work.
Delivery of robust Learning Investigations.
Delivery of improvement actions from learning investigations, assurance plans and EHSSQ improvement plans.
Capability Accountabilities The CL will be accountable for all resources within their capability: Lead the respective department, and act as mentor to staff enabling growth and improvement across the capability.
Alignment of resources to meet short, and medium strategic and project requirements.
Staff: Leadership, performance, SQEP, development, technical training, progression, recruitment.
Leads on customer delivery, exceling in delivering customer value and building a customer-centric culture.
Budget Control Accountabilities The CL will be accountable for all budgetary control associated with their capability: Staff costs including, recruitment, training, progression, T&S, R&R.
Customer Delivery Accountabilities The CL will be accountable for all customer delivery associated with their capability: Control of both quality, cost and time of delivery execution.
Customer engagement to maximise all business opportunities.
Technical excellence in customer delivery.
Technical resolution.
Leadership Accountabilities The CL will be accountable for cultural and business strategies associated with their capability: Exemplar to their teams of standards, values, behaviours and expectations.
Provide direction and decision making to their teams.
To seek to continually improve their areas and seek to optimise effectiveness of delivery.
Development of the function in line with business requirements and recognising technical advancements.
Quality of science and customer delivery.
Essential Criteria for Capability Leader for Safety, Security, Safeguards and Human Factors: Significant nuclear knowledge and experience to understand most aspects of safety, security, safeguards and human factors.
Expertise in relation to aspects of the SSS capability would be an advantage but not essential.
Experience in managing several technical capabilities, people, facilities and equipment across nuclear and non-nuclear sites.
Experience in developing relationships with customer's related to technical capability offerings and support delivery of their projects.
Experience in managing million £ budget, cost control, financial forecasting and planning across a capability.
Operational experience in highly regularised environment, managing technical and facility programmes to a high EHSS&Q standard.
Whilst managing changing and competing priorities and absorbing new information rapidly to address complex issues.
Experience in leadership and driving cultural change through the support in and implementation of strategic business developments.
A degree and / or a relevant demonstrable level of experience.
Experience in managing several differing technical capabilities, people, facilities, and equipment across number of nuclear and non-nuclear sites.
Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Capability Leader for Safety, Security, Safeguards and Human Factors : Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to engage stakeholders and build strong collaborative relationships.
Demonstrable ability in negotiation and meeting client requirements.
Acts as a role model to NNL's values and behaviours.
Proven ability to lead and inspire others to achieve goals.
Strong business and commercial acumen.
