Position Summary Information Primary Purpose: Reporting to the Director for Career Services, the Associate Director for Career Services works with a team of fellow career advisers to provide exceptional career-related advising, programming, and event support for Pacific students on the Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco campuses, and for alumni. The Associate Director will serve as a primary liaison between the Career Services office and various academic units and/or campus groups in an effort to enhance both the student experience and post-graduate outcomes. The Associate Director also may oversee staff and/or student workers as needed. Their portfolio will encompass both career advising and developing employer relations to better serve the Pacific student and alumni communities.
Essential Functions: Serves as a career adviser to students on the Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco campuses. Provides students and alumni with guidance on career exploration and planning, major choice and change, internship search, resume and cover letter preparation, graduate school planning, job search and interview skill development, career changes, and other career-related needs. Works with fellow Career Services team members to coordinate student participation and inclusion in career-related programs, events, and activities (e.g., career fairs, job shadowing programs, mock interview opportunities, off-campus employer site visits, etc.). Raises awareness among students about full-time, part-time, and internship postings, as well as the resources available to support students pursuing those opportunities. Engages students and employers on social media platforms, as appropriate. May oversee career services advisers and/or student workers as needs arise. Creates, facilitates, and/or delivers classroom presentations and workshops for various academic classes and departments throughout the semester related to career development. Serves as an instructor for the 1-unit "Career Search Essentials" course, as needed. Stays current on trends and issues affecting students in the job market and shares insights with colleagues and students. Forges robust partnerships with diverse campus departments and student organizations; partners on career-related initiatives as requested and/or as opportunities arise. Maintains existing and establishes new relationships with corporations and other organizations that provide full-time employment, internship, and job shadowing opportunities for students and alumni. Engages employers in diverse fields through in-person site visits and virtual avenues with the goal of developing quality experiences for Pacific students and alumni. Acts as a "super user" for Handshake and helps to maintain the system. Provides support to employers on and off campus who have questions or need assistance navigating Handshake. Develops tailored communications and other written materials customized for students, including writing and maintaining specific sections of the Career Services website, developing content for social media outlets, and contributing to unit publications as needed. Promotes and participates in all Career Services programming, as assigned by supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned. This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported to them.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Five (5) years of experience in career services, or a directly related service environment. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree Three (3) years of experience in career services, or a directly related service environment. Strong career counseling skills, including use of assessment instruments. Knowledge of and experience using career search platforms and tools such as Handshake, Parker Dewey, LightCast, Standout, etc. Supervisory experience. Ability to administer and interpret career assessments, develop and deliver career-related courses and programs, and present to diverse audiences on career-related topics. Knowledge of laws and ethics related to providing career counseling services. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Demonstrated willingness to collaborate with internal and external customers. Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills. Event and program coordination skills. Knowledge of and commitment to experiential learning. Ability to establish professional relationships with employers, students, alumni, and members of the academic community. Ability to translate perspectives and advocate for various constituents. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work. Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to the outside environment for special events.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. May be required to work additional hours outside standard business hours and weekends to meet business needs. Some travel required including attending related conferences, travel to other campuses, and in developing partnerships with employers.
Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserve the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range: $66,560.00 - $71,303.70 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
