As Waste Estimation and Sampling Technician , you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that your behaviour promotes the safety, health and welfare of yourself and your colleagues.
Also, actively promoting UKAEA's values, championing a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
As well as, undertaking waste estimation activities to assess the likely nature and quantities of waste materials from the JET fusion reactor, JET ancillary systems and other UKAEA experiments.
Furthermore, conducting waste sampling activities to support the determination of waste management/disposal routes; this may include taking samples from large items, determining radioactive material contents, undertaking simple analysis (such as weight/material identification) and supporting more complex analytical methods (such as gamma spectroscopy and destructive sampling).
Also, being able to generate and maintain accurate sampling records, applying appropriate attention to detail and escalating issues through the management chain as required.
Additional Responsibilities: Champion current best-practice, helping to inform decision-making for varied and novel waste-related projects by contributing to the production and review of technical documentation as directed by your manager, as well as communicating waste information/data to internal stakeholders via face-to-face or online presentations.
Support waste facility operation, design and processes through effective engagement with internal stakeholders to promote the appropriate processing of wastes.
Work in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by your manager.
Qualifications Essential Requirements: ONC or equivalent level (eg.
A-level) in relevant STEM subject with demonstrable experience in an engineering or scientific discipline.
Highly competent in the management of samples.
Able to work unsupervised on routine/common radioactive waste types and comfortable liaising with operational teams and waste experts.
Ability to solve problems in a proactive manner and apply appropriate attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly with regards to writing concise and impactful technical reports.
Ability to constructively interact with a variety of stakeholders and escalate issues/deviations through the management chain.
Demonstrably proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
