Job summary The Virology Department, Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS), has a vacancy for an IT and Quality Support Officer.
BSPS is formed by St Peter's Hospital Chertsey, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Frimley Park Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital, The Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading and East Surrey and Crawley Hospitals.
Current activity for BSPS is approximately 23 million tests a year with a workforce of 670 staff.
We are a busy diagnostic department based at St Peter's Hospital which currently handles over 100,000 samples per year including many from referral hospitals.
You would be required to work hours a week, - with a 1-hour lunch break.
Applicants must have IT experience using complex software, for example a laboratory information system such as Winpath Enterprise or a document control system such as QPulse or iPassport.
Essential qualities we require are an ability to work within a team, and good communication skills.
You must demonstrate that you are able to work under pressure, work within a team and meet deadlines; be flexible and adaptable and show that you are motivated and willing to develop your knowledge and skills.
Main duties of the job IT Support You will work with the IT Lead BMS (application specialist) to support the maintenance and development of Virology IT systems.
You would be required to deal with day to day issues involving the laboratory computer system and any other software used throughout the laboratory (word, excel etc).
Previous knowledge of IT procedures and experience of being able to troubleshoot IT systems would be advantageous.
Quality Support You will work with the quality officer in Virology to deliver the quality agenda to maintain ISO:15189 accreditation.
This would include participation in the audit schedule, raising non-conformities where necessary and performing corrective, preventative and root cause analysis, contribution in maintaining the document control system and support the team in regular weekly and monthly reports.
Some experience in clinical pathology accreditation and quality control procedures would be advantageous.
