Speciality Steel UK Limited, part of the GFG Alliance, are seeking an experienced Direct Tax Manager to take responsibility for UK group entity Corporation Tax matters (and other ad-hoc taxes such as PSA filings, Landfill Tax Returns and advisory work).The UK Direct Tax Manager will be an essential part of the SSUK Central Finance Team based in Sheffield, however the role will also support UK entities managed by Head Office in Dubai.
This role requires an inquisitive mind, attention to detail and the ability to use self-initiative.Benefits of the UK Direct Tax Manager 35 days holiday including Bank holidays.Private Medical InsuranceGenerous Pension scheme (up to 10% employer contribution)Free Life Assurance and Income Protection SchemesEmployee Assistance ProgramFree ParkingKey Responsibilities of the UK Direct Tax Manager Prepare and submit all UK corporation tax computations and provision calculations (Alphatax software) for UK group entities within the role's remit.Manage all UK entity government gateway accounts ensuring Finance teams are updated with tax payments, interest and penalties.Prepare and submit all UK PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) returns where applicable, and annually review requirements for PSA for all UK entities.Monthly cash tax payment forecasting for reporting into Group Finance / Tax.Prepare / review R&D claims for eligible UK entities (mixture of in-house prepared and external advisers).Prepare and file Landfill Tax returns in collaboration with local finance teams.Prepare and collate Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) information for SAO nomination and SAO certificate filings.Prepare and publish the UK group Tax Strategy on an annual basis.Work seamlessly with internal and external teams to ensure technical tax matters are accurately reflected.Provide Direct Tax advice for advisory matters including M&A and group reorganisations.Work with or engage in discussions with HMRC on tax matters, including risk reviews, compliance queries, and audits.Assess and mitigate tax risks, ensuring compliance with anti-avoidance legislation and adherence to group tax governance policies.Manage and respond to HMRC audits or inquiries, coordinating documentation and engaging with relevant stakeholders as necessary.Liaise with external auditors to provide required tax documentation and support for statutory audits.Identify and implement tax efficiency initiatives and planning opportunities to optimize the tax position of the UK group.Collaborate with global tax teams to address transfer pricing, cross-border tax issues, and reporting requirements, such as Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR).Provide tax-related training to local finance teams and other internal stakeholders to build awareness of compliance requirements and legislative changes.Collaborate with the Indirect Tax Manager to ensure consistency across tax compliance and reporting, including VAT and other indirect tax matters.Requirements of the UK Direct Tax ManagerACA and/or CTA qualified with significant experience in corporate tax compliance/reporting.Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax issues, including CIR, CFC, Transfer Pricing, R&D, and group relief.Experience in preparing tax provisions and deferred tax recognition.A mindset for continuous improvement and a 'hands-on' approach to solving tax issues within the group.Key Competencies of the UK Direct Tax Manager Ability to work on own initiative and showing enthusiasm for tax and learningAbility to keep all key stakeholder fully informed of progress on work Ability to work effectively under pressure, multi-tasking to strict timescales.Confident and personable approach and an ability to work in a team environment and display a flexible attitude. Ability to remain proactive at all times, pre-empting needs of team members and planning ahead. Capable of organized and efficient task management.High level of skill and accuracy in inputting data and the production of correspondence and documentation.Good communication skills both written and verbal.The ability to analyse legal/other financial documents and legislation.Delivery focused but also able to think creatively.The Working Hours if the UK Direct Tax ManagerThis is a Monday to Friday Role 8am -4pm.
