Job summary B3 Tobacco Dependency Advisor - 30 hours per week (Mon-Fri) Secondment opportunity or 10-month fixed term contract to start as soon as possible We are currently looking to recruit a Tobacco Dependency Advisor for a period of 10 months to join a positive, progressive, and dynamic team within the Havering Directorate.
The successful candidate will support the delivery of an 18-month stop smoking pilot programme for service users with a severe mental illness.
The programme will recognise smoking as an addiction (tobacco dependency) and that it is a chronic relapsing clinical condition that prematurely kills at least half of the people who smoke.
Smoking is seen as a medical condition that can be treated rather than it being a lifestyle choice.
For further information please contact: R Main duties of the job The pilot which aims to provide a tailored programme of support to service users with an SMI to reduce the prevalence of smoking, morbidity, mortality, and health inequalities resulting from smoking through a flexible and intensive 12-week programme.
The service will be integrated into the Havering Community Mental Health and Wellness teams for the wider benefit of service users and directly supported by the Social Inclusion & Resources Manager, and Tobacco Dependency Lead, to ensure that the service adopts a Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach in contacts with service users.
The post holder will deliver the 12-week programme, 'set a quit date' with service users prior to delivering the programme, undertake tobacco harm reduction (smoking cessation) assessments, provide support sessions including advice on stop smoking medications, tobacco dependency pharmacotherapy, and vapes, working within recommended protocols and guidelines, under expert supervision.
The post holder will be working with service users with a severe mental illness in a variety of settings and venues across the Havering Integrated Care Directorate, through face to face, group, and individual sessions, telephone support, family support (interventions with family present), online and text support and will contribute to tackling inequalities in health to enable the service user to reduce or quit smoking.

Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.
All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.
As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.
The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Key Responsibilities: To deliver a 12-week programme of support to service users who are referred to the service.
To deliver tobacco harm reduction assessments, advice, and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications and vapes.
To provide 1:1 and group behavioural support and advice to service users with an SMI who wish to switch to a vape and access nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
To understand the range of interventions available, the evidence base and potential outcomes for service users and apply appropriate either in group or individual settings.
To contribute to individual Tobacco Dependence care plans including robust record keeping To contribute to individual risk assessments around Tobacco Dependence and ensuring information is shared with the wider team.
To develop and maintain relationships with service users and their families/carers to educate, facilitate and promote change.
To promote general health and wellbeing of people who use the service To signpost and refer to other community harm-reduction services.
To report observations and relevant information including any changes in service users physical and mental health, and behaviour to professional qualified staff.
To record observations and relevant information in the service users electronic patient record To ensure all documentation is in line with the Data Protection Act, and ensure appropriate action is taken to safeguard patient confidentiality/confidential information.
To respect the dignity, privacy, and independence of service users at all times and act in a manner to respect the customs, individuality, values, sexuality and spiritual beliefs and activity, supporting patients to be able to fulfil these.
To identify and take action when any behaviour undermines diversity and equality.
To attend and actively participate in training and development sessions and supervision.
