Job summary Do you want to work in a service where we diagnose lung cancer early and save people's lives?An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the expanded Staffordshire Targeted Lung Health Check programme.
This award-winning programme delivers lung cancer screening to people aged between 55 and 74 years old, who have ever smoked in their lifetimes, from virtual and face to face clinics in the community.This post will be mainly based in the Bridge Centre, Birches Head, Stoke on Trent with the view to moving to a number of face to face clinics around StaffordshireTraining and induction will be completed at the Bridge Centre but locations around Staffordshire are feasible as the programme expands with some rotational requirement at County Hospital so ability to drive is essentialTravel payments will be made for any travel completed above home to base mileage.
Main duties of the job screening patients eligible for a Lung Health CheckDirect, inform and liaise with patients, relatives, members of the TLHC Team and members of the general public.Deal directly with queries from patients, other health care professionals and visitors and refer to appropriate TLHC member .Update computer information systems ensuring accurate patient information, making/amending appointments and enter appropriate dataset entry and changes into TLHC databases as appropriate.Independently input audit data in a timely, efficient manner using agreed databases.Independently assess smoking cessation requirements for patients in the TLHC, OPA, and follow up through face to face and telephone consultations as indicated.Independently perform Spirometry following recognised training to support diagnosis and on-going referrals as appropriate to TLHC pathway, under guidance of Screening Nurse Specialists.Ensure onward referral to other relevant care providers smoking cessation, dietetics and any other service with appropriate referrals.To be responsible for the regular ordering of equipment, consumables and education material and liaise with relevant sources to maintain adequate stock..Participate in any developments in computerised administration systems by contributing to the implementation and evaluation process.To be responsible for addressing and problem solving queries direct from patients and relatives regarding the targeted lung health check programme pathway.

Job description Job responsibilities Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within parameters of the nursing associate role, reporting back to the Registered Nurse on a regular basis, using a range of clinical, non-clinical and clerical support tasks.The main duties of the Nurse Assotiate (TLHC) will be to carry out the targeted lung health check assessments using the minimum datasets and risk tool assessments designed for the Lung Health Check Programme.
This will include performing spirometry, supporting the patients, processing outcomes for non CT requiring patients and signposting appropriately.
Due to the nature of this programme, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to work within both the North and South Staffordshire area, although the majority of the patients will currently receive their appointment virtually.
Follow a competency- based induction and training pathway supported by a supervisorUse appropriate evidence based patient assessment toolsDeliver evidence- based programmes of care adhering to standard operating procedures and pathways of careTo use specialist knowledge and communication skills with patients while reviewing them in the virtual setting/community settingWill provide empathy and reassurance regarding the sensitive nature of the information being relayed to themDemonstrate excellent communication skills when dealing with difficult situationsTo act as a resource to provide high-quality information and knowledge to patients, their families where necessary and other healthcare professionals.Support the provision of helpline services run from the hub by resolving queries referred by them to the screening centreTo provide advice, information and support for those making direct contact with the screening centreSupport the development of the care pathwaysWork in a solution focused way as directed by the Registered NurseEnsure clear, accurate and upto date recording of information on the TLHC database as per local record keeping policyAccess and participate in supervision Person Specification essential Essential Experience of dealing with patients Qualifications Desirable significant experience in a hospital Setting Computer Skills essential and interview Essential Experience of dealing with patients working in an acute environment Driving Licence GCSE Maths and English years experience Desirable UHNM Hospital System able to prioritise of work significant experience communication skills
