A Senior Meta/Systems Designer opportunity is available for a talented professional to join our client's team in London on a contract basis. This role focuses on developing and executing the vision for meta-game systems in a well-known IP, ensuring engaging and scalable gameplay experiences that align with the game's narrative and worldbuilding.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities: Lead the Meta-Game Development: Drive the development and execute the vision for the meta-game in collaboration with key stakeholders. Design and Iterate Core Meta Systems: Craft meta-game systems that create meaningful and engaging gameplay experiences. Ensure these systems support both short-term player engagement and long-term retention goals, with scalability for live-ops in mind. Work closely with senior designers and engineers to prototype and iterate on key meta systems, ensuring they align with the game's overall vision and use player feedback and analytics to continuously refine the experience. Ensure Alignment with the IP: Collaborate with narrative and transmedia teams to integrate key story elements and events from the IP. Ensure that the meta-game extends and enhances the worldbuilding established in other media formats, creating a cohesive player experience across platforms. You Have: 8+ years of experience in game design, with a focus on progression systems, meta-games, or live-service design. Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver successful meta-systems in games, from concept through live operations. Strong understanding of player-driven progression, risk/reward mechanics, and engagement strategies. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across narrative, design, engineering, and art disciplines. A passion for building systems that engage players long-term and keep them excited to return. Experience designing scalable systems that evolve over time, maintaining balance between player retention and progression. Ability to quickly prototype ideas and integrate player feedback into design decisions. Deep understanding of live-ops and scalable content delivery in persistent game worlds.
