The Role:  We're seeking a Senior Product Designer with a deep passion for user-centric design, particularly focused on creating solutions that resonate with the end user.
This role will lead the design efforts for consumer-focused products and ensure our solutions are both visually engaging and intuitively functional.
You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, users and other designers to craft experiences that simplify solar adoption for homeowners and inspire confidence in clean energy.
The ideal candidate is a strong advocate and active participant in human-centred design processes, with an exceptional ability to translate consumer needs and pain points into intuitive, visually compelling designs through discovery, wire-framing, prototyping and ultimately high fidelity developer ready concepts.
What you'll be doing:  User-Centric Design: Deeply understand our end users (solar customers) and advocate for their needs across all touchpoints of the design process.
Develop empathetic design solutions that simplify solar concepts, making them accessible and engaging.
Visual & Interaction Design: Lead the visual and interaction design efforts for B2C features, crafting intuitive, engaging, and seamless user interfaces that enhance the solar buying and installation experience.
Research & Insight Synthesis: Conduct and analyze user research, usability testing, and data analysis to identify user pain points and preferences.
Translate insights into actionable design solutions.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product, engineering, marketing, and support teams to create cohesive and scalable design solutions that align with business objectives.
Continuous Improvement: Constantly iterate on designs based on feedback, performance analytics, and user testing to refine and improve product usability and engagement.
Leadership & Mentorship: Mentor junior designers and help establish design standards and best practices that raise the quality of all B2C-focused products within OpenSolar.
What you'll need:  5+ years of experience in product design with a focus on B2C solutions; experience in the solar or energy industry is a plus.
A basic understanding of some common coding languages would be a bonus.
Portfolio: Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design in consumer-facing applications, demonstrating both visual design sensibility and interaction design excellence.
User Research Skills: Proficient in user research methodologies and able to translate insights into actionable design strategies.
Advocate and active participant in human-centred design processes Design Tools: Expert in Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, or other industry-standard design tools.
Strong Collaboration Skills: Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, communicating design concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to navigate complex problems to create simple, elegant solutions.
Adaptability: Comfort in a fast-paced, evolving environment, and ability to pivot quickly as needed.
Stakeholder Management : Great at balancing design craft with design ops as well as a good understanding of design facilitation amongst stakeholders.
