Job summary Within the Neonatal Unit, the Senior Clinical Fellow will: Be required to provide a ST4+ level of staffing for the departmentWork under the supervision of and be responsible to their respective consultant, or the on call consultant and, ultimately the Clinical DirectorEnsure learning from incidents and complaints is cascaded within the junior doctor teamIdentify issues with ward based care pathways and contribute to quality improvement initiatives to rectifyCoordinate ward based-duties amongst the clinical team covering the wards in order to protect time for colleagues to be able to participate in educational opportunities / non-ward based duties (eg clinics)In case of difficulties of any kind, they will seek the advice of the appropriate Consultant.Undertake to deputise from time to time for absent colleaguesIn exceptional circumstances (emergencies and unforeseen circumstances), perform additional duties Main duties of the job We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our innovative and exciting, tertiary level 3 neonatal unit for the Beds & Herts Perinatal Network.
Our maternity unit is one of the busiest in the East of England with over 5300 deliveries per year, resulting in over 900 admissions per year.
The unit comprises 37 cots in total: 11 are intensive care, and 8 are high dependency.
A comprehensive range of neonatal services are provided at the L&D; inhaled nitric oxide, high frequency oscillation and hypothermia therapy for neonatal encephalopathy; with close links to Great Ormond Street Hospital and Addenbrookes Hospital for surgical and cardiac care.
Subspecialty neonatal interests include cardiology, nutrition, respiratory and neurology, with specialist chronic lung disease, neurodevelopment and cardiology clinics.
Pathology within the local population is particularly extensive and complex and provides excellent opportunities for fetal medicine, genetics, and inborn errors of metabolism experience, owing to the ethnic diversity and high degree of consanguinity within the local population.

The appointee will be offered a full time post on a 9 person ST4+ rota in Neonatal Medicine, which is EWTD compliant.
You will be working in a supportive and friendly environment, with a separate Consultant and a ST1-3 rota.
