Senior Clinical Fellow In Spinal Surgery

Job summary Applications are invited for this fixed term appointment.
This post will hold the salary equivalent to Training grades ST6-8 and is fixed term for 12 months.
This post is based at the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital but may include duties Bedford Hospital as the spinal service is further developed.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time will receive equal consideration.
If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Main duties of the job In-patient care The Spine Fellow (SF) will be responsible to the two consultants in spine surgery and for maintaining continuity of in-patient care for spinal surgery patients.
They will also be expected to do weekends on call for general trauma on a 1: 4 rota, if required (there is additional remuneration available for this).
Outpatients & Theatres The SF will attend the outpatient clinics and operating lists of the spinal consultants.
They will be also be required to undertake some independent follow-up clinics and independent injection lists.
The SF will be a member of the spinal MDT and will support the spinal consultants with progressing actions arising from MDT and MSK mentoring.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential FRCS (tr&Orth) or equivalent Basic Medical Qualification (MB BS or equivalent) Complaint with Child Safeguarding training requirements Current ATLS provider certification Full registration with GMC with Licence to Practice Desirable CCT or CESR at the time of commencing the post Experience Essential Log book demonstrating clinical experience commensurate with completion of training in general orthopaedics Able to do general on call trauma and orthopaedic duties at registrar level Training Essential Willingness to engage with ICSP, OCAP Keen interest in teaching to all levels of trainees both locally and regionally including FRCS (Orth) courses Interests Essential Commitment to maintaining and developing a special interest within spinal surgery Communication and Language Skills Essential Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues and support staff Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English
