Job DescriptionThe Senior Accountant is responsible for the provision of technical accounting advice to the Accountancy section (and section 95 officer), relating to the preparation of the annual accounts, support for the financial planning process and for major projects as agreed with the Finance Manager.RequirementsTechnical financial overview of the Annual Report and Annual AccountsAdvising the s95 Officer on overall financial forecasting for the CouncilSupport the s95 Officer regarding the Asset Management Working GroupBe the Finance lead on Participatory BudgetingBe the Finance lead for Moray Growth DealBudgetary and other implications of changes in accounting standards and relevant legislation, LASAAC circulars and other guidanceAd-hoc project work for departments, including support for major projects, and advice and support to other members of the accountancy section involved in such work.Organising cpd training and attend technical updates for the accountancy section.Developing and maintaining budget manager trainingThe IndividualPost-qualifying experience in a public sector finance departmentExperience in a UK financial environmentFully qualified CCAB or CIMA AccountantAbility to interpret, apply and explain technical policies, procedures, guidance and legislationStrong written and oral communications skills and an ability to deal effectively with queries and provide adviceSelf-confident and self-motivatedComputer literate with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and OutlookStrong organisational and time management skillsStrong customer focusYou will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the service.
