Five Education are working with a school in Taunton recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and some Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Working closely with teaching staff, you will support the pupil during the day with their lessons, and also in their interactions with their peers.
You would be using Autism teaching techniques such as "Now and Next".
This work is one to one, working with one identified pupil.
However at times, there will be a need for you to work with a small group of children; for example to help with reading.
Duties of the role: * Work with the teaching staff to adapt the subject to suit the needs of the pupil.
* Help the pupil learn to self regulate behaviour with the use of Attention to Autism Techniques.
* Help develop social skills.
* Keep the pupil engaged with the work and help them to make progress.
Essential criteria: * Adaptable and able to use your initiative * Confident to work with children who have autism * Available to work 5 days a week, 8:30-15:30 * Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa) * Provide at least one recent child-based reference and relevant DBS/ Police checks Desirable criteria: * 6 months of recent experience supporting children with SEND or vulnerable young adults, this could be in a care setting.
* Have knowledge of autism friendly approaches such as 'Now and Next', Social Stories and PECS.
* Knowledge of strategies to help with sensory overload.
