Role Overview: As the Head of Science , you will be responsible for leading the department, overseeing curriculum development, and ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.
This role is pivotal in helping students engage with science in a way that is accessible, enjoyable, and tailored to individual learning needs.
Key Responsibilities: Lead, manage, and develop the Science department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
Oversee curriculum planning and assessment, ensuring lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of all students.
Inspire and motivate students with a love for Science, promoting a positive learning environment.
Work closely with the SENCO and other staff to develop individualized learning plans.
Monitor and track student progress, implementing interventions where necessary.
Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies.
Ensure compliance with relevant policies, including safeguarding and health and safety.
Requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong background in teaching Science.
Experience in SEN settings (preferably with students with social, emotional, and mental health needs).
Proven leadership and management experience within an educational setting.
A passion for developing innovative and engaging Science lessons that cater to diverse learning needs.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and work under pressure.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable: Experience in an alternative provision or similar SEN-focused environment.
Further qualifications in SEN or leadership.
