Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant Type: Special secondary school Contract: Full time, temporary with opportunity to become permanent Salary: £90 - £95 per day We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH teaching assistant to join a vibrant special school in Exeter.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people who face social, emotional and mental health challenges, helping them achieve their potential in a supportive and structured educational environment.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant , you will work closely with teachers SEN specialists, and pastoral staff to provide targeted support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs.This role required a candidate who can build rapport with students display patience and resilience, and contribute to creating a positive learning atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 and small group support support to students with SEMH needs Assist in the development and implementation of personalised learning plans Promote positive behaviour and encourage students' social and emotional development Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt lesson materials and strategies Foster a safe and inclusive environment, helping students manage their behaviour and emotions Record and report on students' progress Offer additional support during school transitions, extracurricular activities and other aspects of school life Requirements: Previous experience working with young people with SEMH or additional needs, ideally in secondary school settings Strong understanding of SEMH issues and practical strategies to support students Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to stay calm under pressure, demonstrate empathy and maintain high expectations Minimum of GCSE's in English and Maths; relevant qualification in education or mental health support are advantageous Able to drive and have access to your own vehicle Working with Long-term Teachers: We are an independent agency working with Nurseries, Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.
