Scott Arms Medical Centre is currently looking for a Medical Receptionist.
The hours would be:
varied between 08.00am to 18.30pm over 5 days
Previous experience of working in a GP practice would be an advantage but not necessary as full training will be given.
The Medical Receptionist role is for an enthusiastic, positive, self-motivated individual who can work both independently and as part of our growing team.
Our reception team are the first link for many patients and visitors who come to the surgery.
The role varies on a day-to-day basis including greeting patients as they arrive and checking them in, collecting patient notes and ensure that these vital records go to the right healthcare professional.
The day-to-day also involves using the clinical system and other software programmes to make appointments, booking patient transport, booking interpreters and dealing with test results.
In addition, responding to tasks from clinical and non-clinical staff, liaising with external community services and emergency services and general administration.
Our reception team meet regularly to discuss best practice and ways of improving our service; we work very closely with other teams within the practice and community.
Main duties of the job
Reception is the first point of contact for our patients on thetelephone.
Our Medical Receptionists assist our patient to receive the rightcare from the most appropriate clinician.
The position is much more than booking appointments for patients; itinvolves a whole range of administrative tasks that require the position holderto pay close attention to detail and work accurately using their initiativeonce trained.
Training will be given as part of an on-going personal developmentprogramme.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can adapt tochange and learn new skills with support from the management team.
From time-to-time we ask our reception team to cover annual leave ofother team members through working paid over-time.

Responsible for dealing with allmatters concerning the non clinical care of patients, either F2F on bytelephone.
A strong professional and flexible approach is essential for the dayto day running of the organisation of the practice and in the approach tofuture developments.
Job Responsibilities: The duties andresponsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice administrationteam may include any or all of the items in the flowing list.
Duties may bevaried from time to time under the direction of the Team Leader, Practice Manager and DeputyPractice Manager, dependent on current and evolving practice workload andstaffing levels.
Maintaining security in accordancewith practice protocols
Being aware of and remaining abreastof practice policies and protocols
Knowing where to find phone numbers,policies and contacts
Computer data entry/data collectionand collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practiceprocedures
Initiating contact with andresponding to requests from patients, other team members and associatedhealthcare agencies and providers
Clearing and re-stock consultingrooms as required
Providing clerical assistance to thepractice, pcn and CCG staff as required from time to time, including word/dataprocessing, filing, photocopying, scanning
Providing refreshments for staff andvisitors as required; loading and emptying the dishwasher, keeping the kitchenarea tidy and collecting cups from upstairs
Keeping the reception area tidy andfree from obstructions and clutter
Charging patients the appropriateamount for private work, providing a receipt to the patient and recordingcharge in the receipt book
Receiving, checking and signing fordeliveries
Maintaining a record of daily labtests, both outgoing and incoming, in a manner suited to the needs of thepractice
Filing of notes
Prescription Processing including EPS
Processing F2F and telephone requestsfor appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers aredirected to the appropriate healthcare professional
Taking messages and passing oninformation

Ideally you will have experience ofworking in a GP Practice and using Systemone Clinical System and DOCMAN wouldalso be beneficial.
To act as the first point of contactfor anyone visiting the surgery or calling on the telephone.
To receive patients on arrival anddirect them to the correct surgery when required.
To deal politely and efficiently withvisitors and, as a member of the practice team, provide a courteous and helpfulservice.
To ensure patient notes are correctlyextracted and re-filed when necessary.
To ensure patient confidentiality isrespected at all times and to adhere to the Data Protection Act.
Answer telephone and deal with orre-direct enquiries, booking appointments etc.
Receive prospective patients andregister patients.
Answer queries with regard to resultsof recent tests e.g.
bloods, urine or X-rays.
This includes contacting thehospital(s) for those results if necessary.
Inform patients, when directed by adoctor, of the need to make a follow-up appointment at the Surgery.
Take in requests for repeatprescriptions, hand out completed prescriptions and prepare the forms for a GPssignature when necessary.
Maintain a record in the book of items received intothe surgery.
Cancel appointments when necessary,contact the patient(s) and re-book if required.
Book patient hospital transport whenrequired.
Contact the emergency services whennecessary.
Liaise with doctors to makeappointments for private medicals when required.
At the start of each session period,open the surgery and GP rooms and ensure that everything is ready for theupcoming session.
