CRADLE partnership, Autonomy and Verification Group Department of Computer Science, University of Manchester, UK https://cradlerobotics.co.uk This position is for research within CRADLE, the Centre for Robotic Autonomy in Demanding and Long-lasting Environments, a partnership between Amentum, the University of Manchester's Centre for Robotics and AI, and the UKRI.
CRADLE involves providing project-wide flexible, generic, verifiable architectures supporting practical development and deployment of trustworthy autonomous robotics.
We are looking for a strong researcher able to conduct research around software design for autonomous robotic systems, and with a background of excellent research outputs across software engineering or software architectures, ideally focussed on Autonomy or Robotics.
We are looking for research expertise in autonomous systems covering at least one of security, sustainability, self-awareness, or safety, as well as expertise in areas that will link across CRADLE, such as fault-tolerance, runtime verification, and human-robot teamwork.
The overall programme aims to develop a body of cross-cutting research across the field of Robotics, and we are therefore seeking candidates who show a willingness and aptitude for collaborating closely with the wider research team which includes Assurance, Robotics and Human Interaction researchers as well as Engineers from Amentum.
The successful candidate will contribute to the wider joint research programme tackling these interrelated challenges and will undertake research in the Autonomy and Verification Network.
