37 hours per week Temporary until January 2028 Your role: In this role you will work within Wigan Council's Public Health team gaining new knowledge, skills, and behaviours across Public Health, while completing the Public Health Practitioner Apprenticeship (BSc (hons) Public Health) or equivalent.
Key aspects of the role will include, supporting the improvement of health outcomes and reduction in health inequalities in line with local and national priorities and strategies.
You will be required to support the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of public health initiatives and contribute to the redesign of services and interventions to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
Initially we are offering this apprentice opportunity for a 3 year period, aligned with completion of the degree programme.
About you: You must be willing to undertake the BSc (Hons) Public Health / Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship and take responsibility for your and take responsibility for your own development.
The ideal candidate should have good communication skills, be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of team work and prioritising and be able to organise and take responsibility for own workload and meet deadlines.
An ability to work to a high level of accuracy and with a strong attention to detail along with an aptitude to problem solving is also expected.

As the Public Health Practitioner Apprentice, you will study for a degree in Public Health and Public Health Practitioner qualification at Salford University whilst working full time.
Working collaboratively with a team of public health professionals and stakeholders you will gain the knowledge, skills and experience across the various Public Health services, such as health improvement, health protection and gaining understanding of the wider determinants of health such as education, transport, and housing.
You'll be keen to learn and able to work as part of a hardworking team, who have residents at the heart of everything they do.
