Project And Operational Support Lead – Irradiation

Job summary As Project and Operations Support Lead - Irradiation, you will be accountable for leading major operational and technical projects and initiatives to maintain our ability to irradiate blood components.
You will manage a range of stakeholders, such as external agencies, to ensure strategic objectives are met including developing and presenting cases for change to Senior Management Teams.
You will ensure compliance with regulations around the use of ionizing irradiation by providing technical leadership to Radiation Protection Supervisors and other directorates.
Working closely with Manufacturing Operations and Technical & Scientific Development you will provide expert, proactive and professional leadership on the implementation of a range of other programmes/changes, standardisation initiatives, ways of working, introduction of new technology, service and product development and improved performance across blood manufacturing.
You will be a senior leader in Blood Supply and your impact will be far-reaching, contributing to the strategies of other areas across the blood supply will be joining an in-flight project and initially be reporting to the Technical & Scientific Development Associate Director.
Main duties of the job Lead major technical & scientific projects, initiatives or work areasProvide leadership, vision and direction to develop and deliver operational and technical strategy across Blood SupplyLead on the implementation of a range of programmes/changes, standardisation initiatives, new ways of working, introduction of new technology, service and product development and improved performance across Blood SupplyHold delegated authority and accountability for NHSBTs Ionizing Irradiation Licence, as requiredBe the key link with various external agencies with freedom to act, such as the Home Office department of ionizing irradiation.Collaborate with senior management teams to identify operational improvements for the complete Blood supply chainLead and develop a number of specialist departments or initiatives.
Providing advice on standards and specifications for systems, processes, consumables and equipment and providing operational expertise for evaluation, procurement processes and projects.Maintaining a thorough working knowledge of irradiation practices, procurement, licensing and regulatory requirements in all areas associated with Blood SupplyTo deputise for Assistant Director as required About us It takes all types of people to deliver the kind of service that saves and improves lives.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential * Degree at Masters level for example MBA or equivalent relevant experience gained in a senior operational Leadership role.
Supplemented by specialist training * Specialist expertise in and practical knowledge in areas of radiation protection, blood component irradiation, blood irradiation dosimetry and Class 7 transport regulations(desirable) * Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD) Experience Essential * In depth knowledge of ionizing radiation processes and operational knowledge of Blood Supply, or within a supply chain organisation * Extensive relevant experience in team leadership, management and development * Experience of delivering change within time, financial or quality frameworks * Experience of leading complex programmes of work * Experience of leading programmes and chairing technical/clinical/scientific governance groups within healthcare, pharmaceutical or similar industry.
* Experience of managing budgets Considerable experience in a regulated (Good Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice) environment.
Experience of target setting, staff motivation and change management.
* Extensive relevant experience in team leadership, management and development
