Principle Clinical Psychologist in PaediatricsSt George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation TrustThis post provides a clinical and leadership role to our specialist health cluster. The post holder will be expected to have oversight for the psychological care being provided to a range of our specialist medical teams who have embedded psychological provision including HIV, gastroenterology, respiratory, diabetes, complications of excess weight and infectious diseases. The post holder themselves will provide direct clinical care into our HIV service.
As part of the post, there will be scope to contribute to research and policy and to innovate with regards to service development and delivery.
The Paediatric Psychological Therapies Team is a large, friendly and expanding service. We consist of clinical psychologists, mental health practitioners, assistant psychologists, trainees and administrators. Our service provides psychological support to both inpatient and outpatients, covering a wide range of specialties.
Main duties of the jobHaving clinical oversight for psychological care being provided to our HIV, gastroenterology, respiratory, diabetes, complications of excess weight and infectious diseases teams.Ensuring high standards of psychological care are being offered across the cluster.Ensuring ongoing systematic review and evaluation of these services.Providing clinical supervision and line management for more junior psychologists who work into these teams.Providing a highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to CYP and their families who need it across these services.Providing direct clinical care to CYP under the HIV service.About usSt Georges Hospital is one of London's largest children's hospitals, with one of only four paediatric trauma units in London. Person SpecificationEducationAdditional therapeutic or managerial post qualification training.ExperienceExperience of working as a qualified psychologist with CYP in a paediatric setting.Experience of working with CYP who have a life limiting or life threatening condition.Experience of working with CYP who have long standing health needs that impact on function.Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts and of working in a multicultural framework.Experience of teaching or training.Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people and child protection.Experience of line managing more junior colleagues.Experience of developing and leading a service.Experience of supervising other qualified practitioner psychologists.Experience of offering aspects of staff support including debriefs and reflective practice.SkillsWell-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their carers, and other professionals.Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations and challenging behaviours.Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.Evidence of skilled and productive multidisciplinary team working.Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, including verbal abuse.Evidence of specialised psychological therapeutic skills as used in complex cases within paediatrics.Evidence of team leadership skills.Disclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £70,387 to £80,465 a year per annum including inner London HCAS.
