Role: Principal OHL Design Engineer Location : Suffolk, UK (Hybrid, Office, Site) Type : Permanent Salary : Up to £90k (depending on experience) + Car Allowance + Flexible Benefits About the Role: MDE have partnered with a leading engineering services company who focus on the power and utility sectors.
We are seeking a Principal Overhead Line Design Engineer to join our clients expanding team.
You'll be part of impactful projects that drive the UK's Net Zero ambitions, covering the full energy spectrum—from generation to transmission, distribution, and storage.
This role offers a career pathway to become the Head of OHL Design within 1-2 years as our clients team grows.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and develop the OHL design team, attracting top talent and opportunities.
Manage all OHL design aspects: conductor modelling, insulation selection, routing, PLS-CADD and PLS-TOWER analysis.
Create technical reports, specifications, drawings, and calculations.
Develop project proposals, allocate resources, and manage costs.
Provide technical leadership and ensure quality across all projects.
Oversee the complete lifecycle of design projects, from concept to detailed design.
Mentor and train team members, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Drive continuous improvement in design processes.
About You: We seek motivated self-starters eager to build and grow our technical capability through leadership and expertise.
Strong project management and commercial knowledge are essential, with experience working within design and construction contract frameworks like NEC.
Qualifications & Experience: Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
NGED TP141 accreditation.
Experience with OHL design for transmission/distribution voltages (11kV-400kV).
Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER software.
In-depth understanding of CDM 2015 and relevant electricity safety regulations.
Full UK driving license.
