Job description Job responsibilities UHS has one of the largest pharmacy departments in the country with nearly 400 staff and are nationally recognised for their innovation.
The pharmacy technician workforce is well established and respected, with several band 8a pharmacy technicians leading sections of pharmacy within the department.
We have created innovative roles for specialist pharmacy technicians in asthma, paediatric oncology and biologics, as well as cross-sector roles with GP practices.
As a department, each week we review over 16,000 medicines for their appropriateness, dispense over 8000 patient specific medicines, manage an expenditure of approximately £ million on medicines and provide access to medicines, advice, and e-prescribing support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This new band 7 role will be responsible for the operational day-to-day running of the Medicines Management Team (MMT) in UHS.
This team has been well-established for many years and supports the clinical pharmacy service to over 1400 patients.
Continuous improvement and adaptation is a way of life in UHS, and you will be key to identifying and implementing these changes with your team, for the benefit of both patients and staff.
The attached team structure provides more detail about where your role sits within the team.
Together with the Pharmacy Technician - Head of Pharmacy Clinical Services and the Deputy Chief Pharmacist -Clinical Services, determine aims and objectives for the section.
To put in place and maintain systems to plan, implement, monitor, and control the required action (Project manage).
This will entail working with colleagues to develop the role of the medicines management service, to support the delivery of patient focused pharmaceutical care.
To ensure that staff are assigned duties compatible with their grade, training, and experience, and that the procedures of the section are followed, and standards upheld.
To develop staff where needed.
Using their yearly appraisal and relevant projects where staff could gain experience.
To manage the team using relevant Trust policies such as performance management, disciplinary and sickness policies etc.
where needed.
To manage and co-ordinate the medicines management team including workload, annual leave, staff appraisals and rota planning for weekday working, late nights and weekends.
To deal with errors, concerns and complaints using effective communication and providing information to give a satisfactory outcome where required.
We currently work Monday to Friday, with hours ranging from 8am to 7pm with a commitment to a late night once a week, and a weekend commitment on 1 in 6 basis.
(These working hours are subject to change in line with needs of the patients).
Person Specification Trust Values Essential Patients First Always Improving Working Together Qualifications, knowledge and experience Essential Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council Management qualification equivalent to at least intermediate management level NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical science and equivalent level of in-depth specialist organisational and procedural, knowledge of pharmacy services Can demonstrate understanding of current professional regulations and issues Extensive experience of pharmacy IT systems Experience of managing staff and/or services Desirable Leadership qualification Budget & Financial management experience Experience of designing and implementing an audit Experience of writing for publication Skills and competencies Essential Advanced Microsoft Office skills Problem solving Leadership Presentation skills Incident resolution Project management Policy development
