The Respiratory and Immunology Translational Unit (RITU) at GSK applies cell atlassing and multi-modal capabilities to bolster human translational confidence for the Biology Research Unit (RIRU).
Our focus is on discovering biomarkers, identifying additional indications and combinations, and facilitating patient stratification.
Reporting to the Director for Human Samples and Data Access in the RITU, the Operations Manager will collaborate with a wide variety of functions within GSK and external organisations to progress the human sample (HBS) and data access strategy.
The Operations Manager will ensure stakeholder alignment, track project deliverables and milestones, and reconcile activities with contracting and finance operations.
Further responsibilities include managing the shipping and receipt of HBS and coordinating data ingestion, identifying and mitigating HBSM risks, and organising compliance documentation.

Discover more about our company wide benefits and life at GSK on our webpage Life at GSK | GSK KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: HBSM life cycle management: Working with GSK partner organisations, coordinate the acquisition, shipping, receipt, and storage of human-derived samples ensuring integrity and traceability in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
Data Ingestion Oversight: Collaborate with data-facing teams to coordinate the ingestion of data from HBS projects.
Vendor and Contract Management : Manage vendor contracts, organise invoices, and ensure compliance with GSK policies and procedures.
Project Management : Work with cross-functional project teams to deliver translational research objectives, including planning, tracking, and resolving operational issues to ensure timely completion.
Financial Oversight : Track and update project budgets, milestones, and payments.
Analyse costs and provide comparisons with industry benchmarks.
Stakeholder Management: Develop key stakeholder relationships with GSK and external suppliers, such as for the acquisition and shipping of HBS.
Compliance and Documentation : Ensure compliance with relevant protocols, standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements related to sample and data management.
Risk Management : Identify and communicate risks related to timeline, budget, and scope to stakeholders in a timely and clear manner.
Collaboration and Communication : Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure project objectives are met.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, and EXPERIENCE: Intermediate level of project or program management experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a matrixed environment.
A proven track record in contract negotiation, managing third party vendors and academic collaborators, budgets, and invoicing.
Experience in sourcing and acquiring human samples and associated data.
Highly effective communication and negotiation skills for various audiences, including technical and business stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
Established expertise and hands-on experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, remote meeting tools (e.g.
MS Teams, WebEx) and innovative AI technologies (e.g., CoPilot, ChatGPT etc.)
Preferred qualifications, skills & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related discipline (advanced scientific degree a plus).
Basic understanding of drug discovery and development.
Knowledge of ethical and regulatory requirements for working with human samples.
Ability to establish trust, work with integrity, and motivate others to achieve project goals.
Strong negotiation, influencing, analytical, problem-solving, and facilitation skills within the pharmaceutical or CRO industry.
Good understanding and application of Project Management principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
