Job Description NBC News Digital is looking for an experienced news editor to join its London team and work with our international team of reporters, TV correspondents and producers for six months of parental leave cover. The successful candidate must have worked at a major news organization commissioning and editing articles aimed at a broad audience.
They must have proven people skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
A track record of spotting trends and stories others miss and an ability to edit copy quickly are a must.
The hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. BST, Monday to Friday but the editor will be flexible and able to work the occasional weekend, late afternoon or evening.
While much of the role will focus on international news, the news editor must have a firm grasp of stories and issues that appeal to an American audience. This position has been designated as hybrid, but the news editor will generally be expected to be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Key Tasks Help lead daily morning news meeting Help to set the daily news agenda, and coordinate plans with different platforms, sections and their broadcast colleagues Provide rigorous edits and work with reporters to find new ways to turn raw reporting into compelling digital content.
Help the Assistant Managing Editor for International News and other editors think strategically about how we cover the world, determining which countries and issues deserve the most focus, when to deploy reporters to the scene, and when a news story deserves multiple sidebars and feature coverage.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent and comparable work experience 5 or more years' experience in a digital newsroom A broad knowledge of international affairs, U.S. politics and pop culture Wordsmith who appreciates the power of headlines, ledes and strong quotes and color to elevate copy and attract readers Excellent news judgment Must be comfortable working in a hybrid work environment Additional Information As part of our selection process, external candidates may be required to attend an in-person interview with an NBCUniversal employee at one of our locations prior to a hiring decision.
