Job Purpose We are seeking a legally qualified Contracts Manager with 3-5 years experience, specialising in contract law in the payments industry (B2B or B2C). This is a newly created position, offering the opportunity to build a legal function, reporting to the Chief Risk Officer. You will work across the business, providing legal advice, negotiating contracts and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Our ideal candidate will be commercially minded, experienced in drafting, negotiating and finalising legal agreements with customers, partners, suppliers. You will be well versed in payment industry regulation, both current and future, and be comfortable working collaboratively with a cross-functional team to help us be ready to respond to external regulatory and reporting requirements.
Responsibilities will include: Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including client contracts, supplier agreements, partnership agreements, and NDAs.Risk Mitigation: Identify potential legal risks in contracts and advise stakeholders on mitigation strategies.Legal Advisory: Provide practical and business-focused legal advice to internal teams, particularly on issues related to contract law and regulatory compliance.Regulatory Compliance: Support the company's adherence to relevant regulations and industry standards in the fintech sector.Policy Development: Develop and implement templates, policies, and processes to streamline contract review and approval.Collaboration: Work closely with the Chief Risk Officer and cross-functional teams, including Client teams and Product, to ensure alignment between legal and business priorities.External Counsel Management: Manage relationships with external legal advisors for specialized legal matters.The Person we are looking for: A qualified solicitor or lawyer with 3-5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a reputable law firm or in-house role.Strong expertise in commercial contract law, ideally with experience in the fintech or technology sector.Ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.A pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset, balancing legal risk with business objectives.Familiarity with regulatory requirements in financial services (e.g., GDPR, AML, and payments regulations)Please note, Freemarket offers a hybrid working model.
