The Paediatric Department at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join their team to undertake a 6-month Fixed term LAS ST Higher post.
Post will commence 5th March 2025 until 2nd September 2025.
Post is not able to be extended beyond this date currently.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in an area of paediatrics similar to that of other trainees in the department.
The post will be predominantly ward based but with opportunity to attend clinics.
The post will participate on the on call rota.
The successful candidates will work together with the wider clinical team of Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Junior Doctors and other Allied Health Professionals to provide high quality, safe and effective clinical care.
Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
Applicants must hold Full GMC registration with a licence to practise or show evidence that it will be issued by start date.
We are not able to sponsor candidates for GMC registration.
Main duties of the job This post is aimed at ST Higher level.
The post will start as soon as possible.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in Paediatrics.
In addition to this, there will be specific responsibilities in relation to the Paediatric Assessment Unit, the Out-Patient Department, liaison with the Accident & Emergency Department and other specialties.
We encourage uptake of training opportunities and will support relevant courses for the candidate's education and training needs.
The post will be based in the South West Wales Cancer Centre, Swansea.
The role will mainly be supporting the inpatient unit, in addition to providing medical input to the chemotherapy and radiotherapy units.
Even though the posts will not be recognised for training the successful candidates will have the opportunity to attend teaching and participate in audit, quality improvement and research projects where possible similar to the Wales Deanery Trainees.
The successful candidates will also have dedicated educational supervisor.
These posts will participate on the medical on call rota and have similar responsibilities to the training grades.
There is a study leave budget available and associated funding will be considered by the Medical Director Office and approved for educational opportunities.

Person Specification Experience Essential oBe eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at the advertise post start date for the vacancy oEvidence of achievement of paediatric capabilities commensurate with a trainee who has completed ST2, as defined by the Paediatric RCPCH Progress+ curriculum, by point of application oHave at least 12 months' experience of working in Paediatrics; this must include at least 6 months in Neonatology at the point of application and 6 months in General Paediatrics (not including Foundation modules) by time of application Qualifications Essential oMBBS or equivalent medical qualification oSuccess in 2 of the three written MRCPCH papers at time of application and within the last 7 years Desirable oAny postgraduate university qualifications (not including 'Honorary' MA).
Clinical Skills - Clinical Knowledge & Expertise Essential oAbility to apply sound clinical knowledge, skills, and judgement to improve patient care oRecognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient in a paediatric and neonatal setting.
oDemonstrable competence of, and recognition of safeguarding concerns around children and young people with appropriate escalation oAt least 6 months experience in neonatal medicine at point of application oAt least 6 months experience of general paediatric services at the time of application Desirable oDemonstrable competence of training in paediatric and neonatal life support.
