It Operations Engineer

With offices in the UK, USA and South Africa, we are a growing Travel Management Company specialising in the charity, academic and not-for-profit sectors, and we are proud and passionate about what we do.The IT Operations Engineer will be a technical expert at the forefront of Infrastructure and System support for the business, leading on, participating in, and overseeing a wide range of analytical and technically demanding projects.
You will be expected to work on a wide range of systems, adapt quickly, take on challenges, and advise on technology best practices whilst striving to continuously improve service quality around our technology environments.
This will be a varied role and key tasks will include:Third line administration, support and maintenance including: Azure Virtual Desktop; Active Directory; Group Policy; Microsoft Exchange 365; Network Hardware; Infrastructure Performance Take ownership and responsibility for providing the timely problem diagnosis, solutions documentation, implementation, administration, high level support, and ongoing maintenance of a variety of hardware, software, network, and communication systemsProvide day to day support for internal customers via IT Service & Operations helpdesk, and project-based work leading to the development and deployment of new infrastructure services.
Liaising with 3rd party supplier or other internal departments to collaborate on bug fixes, release installations and plan future developmentsConduct internal and external security audits and analyse security breaches to determine their root causeRecommend and install appropriate tools and counter measuresDocumentation and training to produce and maintain knowledge bases on managed IT systems to support the wider team and businessExperience as an independent technical escalation point within the technical teamHands-on Microsoft Windows network skills including Microsoft/Entra AD, Group Policy management, Security, DNS, DHCP, DFS, RDP and other Windows servicesStrong Microsoft Office 365 administration skills, including hybrid Azure deployments including IaaS and PaaS solutionsProficient in the latest Microsoft Windows server, Linux, and desktop operating systems technology stacks, including Azure Virtual Desktop/NerdioExperienced in commonly used anti-virus software packages, such as Microsoft DefenderParticipate in a 24-hour on-call rotation (including weekends and bank holidays) to ensure the continuous operation and support of our end user and IT infrastructureExperience with 1st, 2nd, 3rd line support would be desirable Beneficial knowledge of working with Manage Engine and Zoho OneIn return you will receive:Salary to £40,000 (pending experience) plus additional on-call working allowance £2,400 per annum 23.5 days holiday (plus bank holidays), rising to 24.5 days after 12 months of serviceOption to buy or sell additional annual leaveEmployee Assistance ProgramHealthcare Cash PlanPensionLife AssuranceSeason ticket loanDiscounted staff travelCycle to Work SchemeIf you are interested in our role and meet the requirements above, then please do get in touch.
Our working hours are 8.45am - 5.30pm, Monday – Friday.
You would also be 'on call' for a week at a time and would be required to cover 1 out of every 3 weeks.
In order to assist you to perform the above additional duties the Company will provide you with a mobile phone or reimburse you £25.00 per month to cover the additional charges incurred by you.
The role is based in our central Manchester office, with the option to work 2 days per week at home (in the UK).
