The Met Office is delighted to open our advertising for a number of Industrial Placements, which will commence from July 2025 until July 2026.
We're looking for an exceptional Observations R&D Industrial Placement to help us make a difference to our planet.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year in Industry placement, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us.
You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placements all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities we can offer you after you graduate.
As our Industrial Placement, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home.
This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

You'll be working on projects that really matter and will make a difference.
You will support the delivery or application of scientific research to enhance the Met Office's capability, impact or quality of its predictions, products or advice.
More specifically, this post contributes to the Advancing Observations strategic theme through investigation and analysis of 3rd party and opportunistic sources of observations, which can potentially supplement the more traditional meteorological observations networks.
Your key duties Work with observations scientists and engineers to understand new and existing forms of observation data and investigate quality control measures.
Apply statistical and visualisation techniques to a variety of datasets.
Produce written and verbal briefings for internal colleagues on the findings and recommendations.
Develop knowledge and skills associated with observations data analysis.

Whilst this is a temporary position until July 2026, there is potential for it to develop into an opportunity to join our Graduate Development scheme once you have completed your University studies.
