Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist, Intensive Support Team

Job summary The Intensive Support Team is a dedicated and innovative multi-disciplinary team supporting Adults with Learning disabilities to reduce avoidable hospital admissions and facilitate successful discharge back to the community.
We are looking for a motivated Highly Specialist SLT to join our skilled MDT comprising a range of professional and assistants.
The post holder will be responsible for leading, shaping and developing SLT within the intensive support team by promoting a culture of evidence-based practice and person-centred care.
Main duties of the job The role will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team colleagues and provide delivery of SLT assessment, treatment and intervention through direct, indirect and consultative models, with the option for providing a dysphagia service if the post-holder wishes.
The post holder will have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and have significant postgraduate experience working with people with learning disability, mental illness, and/or neurodiversity as well as an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the communication and swallowing needs of this patient population.

Job description Job responsibilities Main duties of the role will include: Working intensively with individuals, their carers and with MDT colleagues.
This includesprovision of training, resources and consultation, plus advocating on behalf of individuals in regards to their communication needs.
You will need to be responsive, adaptable and sensitive, supporting individuals and carers in complex and distressing situations at times.
Communication and collaboration with multiple agencies across the system is a key part of the role .
Leadership elements of the post includedirection and supervision of assistants and being a pro-active member of the clinical leadershipof the service.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy.
Further training and experience in specialist area to Masters level or equivalent Significant post graduate training in relevant to the role Current Registration with Health Professions Council without restriction Knowledge and Skills Essential An excellent understanding of the specific contribution of Speech and Language Therapists in Specialist Learning Disability and Autism services.
Ability to demonstrate team building, leadership and organisational skills Demonstrates an understanding and ability to practice in a person-centred way within community and inpatient settings.
Knowledge in developing and delivering specialist clinical interventions PBS within Specialist Learning Disability and Autism services.
Demonstrates an understanding of clinical and management supervision skills Knowledge of assessment and treatment services and the specialist role of Speech and Language Therapists.
Experience Essential Broad range of experience in working in Learning disability and/or Autism services or Mental Health Services.
Significant experience in working in specialist community or Inpatient Learning Disability ,Autism services Competence with clients with complex needs.
Experience of supervising registered and/or non-registered staff.
Experience of delivering and receiving clinical supervision.
