An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Head of School for Paediatrics in London.
The role of Head of School for Paediatrics is to work with and support the NHS England Postgraduate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England (NHS E) mandate.
The Head of School is professionally and managerially accountable to the Postgraduate Dean.
The Head of School will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.
The role is evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.
Main duties of the jobTo support the Postgraduate Dean, Heads of Schools will work across the spectrum of health and where relevant, social care, within the context of a team, so that the provision of education reflects changing service models.
The Head of School will:
Provide effective clinical leadership, contributing to the strategic developmentWork closely with Postgraduate Deans and Deputy Head of School to implement the NHS E Quality Framework to enable improvements in education and training qualityOversee School programme management and advise the Postgraduate Deans on specialty-specific matters and recruitment to training posts and programmesSupport professional development of the educational facultyPerson SpecificationQualificationsPrimary clinical healthcare qualificationMembership / Fellowship of College / Faculty, professional association and/or bodyAttendance at courses aimed to support educational developmentEducational qualification such as PG Cert diploma or Master of Medical Education, Train the Trainer, etc.ExperienceConsiderable experience of working with doctors in an educational contextExperience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional teamDemonstrable track record of delivery in service and educationTrained and experienced in recruitment, selection and equality and diversity trained in the last 3 yearsActive involvement in, and up to date with, appraisal processesKnowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters, the Gold Guide and educational theoryApplicants who are doctors require a Licence to PractiseUnderstanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges / Faculties, professional bodies related to NHS organisationsUnderstanding of the workforce transformation agendaPrevious or current appointment as leader in healthcare educationAwareness of funding streams for healthcare educationUnderstanding of current health and social care and education policySkills and abilitiesDemonstrable Leadership skills and an ability to motivate othersA strong sense of vision and an ability to innovatePolitically astute with an ability to sensitively manage complexity and uncertaintyAbility to problem solve and maintain objectivityStrong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skillsAbility to quickly establish personal and professional credibility with colleagues and other key stakeholdersExcellent organisational and time management skillsCommitted to own personal development and an ability to support others to develop and progressAbility to rapidly establish academic credibilityDepending on experience, salary paid in line with sessional payments.
