Job Description The salary for this role is £32,729.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role To help provide advice and guidance to a wide range of personnel to ensure observance with the requirements of the regulations contained within the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17), Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR16), COSHH and other related legislation and compliance with relevant documentation contained in the UKAEA Management System Documentation in support of programme delivery at UKAEA.
In conjunction with a Health Physicist (HP)/RPA, ensure that any advice or guidance given with regard to matters set out in Schedule 4 of IRR17, specifically: • The implementation of requirements as to controlled and supervised areas.
• The prior examination of plans for installations and the acceptance into service of new or modified sources of ionising radiation in relation to any engineering controls, design features and warning devices provided to restrict exposure to ionising radiation.
• The regular calibration of equipment provided for monitoring levels of ionising radiation and regular checking that such equipment is serviceable and correctly used.
• The periodic examination and testing of engineering controls, design features, safety features and warning devices and regular checking of systems of work provided to restrict exposure to ionising radiation.
Additional Responsibilities: The risk assessment required by regulation 8.
The designation of controlled and supervised areas as required by regulation 17.
The conduct of the various investigations required by IRR17 and the Company.
The drawing up of contingency plans as required by regulation 13.
Dose assessment and recording as required by regulation 22.
Help provide advice on the safety issues associated with working with beryllium.
To support the advice and guidance provided by other health physics practitioners i.e.
health physics manager and health physics technicians to ensure it is consistent with the requirements of IRR17, COSHH and the EA Permit.
Help HPs/RPAs provide technical support to corporate activities including but not limited to; HAZOP, ALARP, BAT/BPM and the Authority Technical Document Control system, as delegated by the RPA.
To help formulate and/or update site health physics procedures, documentation as well as reviewing and approving safety documents and risk assessments on the RIVO system Production and presentation of training/presentations on beryllium safety, radiological protection (radiation and tritium) PAS user course and other health physics topics.
Support to new build projects as required as delegated by the RPA.
Support Company arrangements for emergency response on-site and where appropriate off-site.
Qualifications Essential Requirements: Degree in Science or related discipline or equivalent qualification Keen to learn about Radiation Protection Comfortable talking to a wide range of personnel with varied backgrounds.
