Director of People - Noah's Ark Children's HospiceAre you committed to providing strategic HR leadership to make a significant difference in the lives of babies, children, young people, and families? At Noah's Ark Children's Hospice, we help children who are seriously unwell make the most of every day. Come and join us as our new Director of People.
Location: Barnet, London, EN5 4NP (4 days at the Hospice, 1 day at home)Who we areAt Noah's Ark Children's Hospice, we are here to enable those we support to enjoy life as children, rather than as patients, as families, not just as carers. Partnering with London NHS Trusts, we have built a home, a community, and an expert team to make that difference. We help babies, children, and young people with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions and their families make the most of every day. Additionally, we support those who die young to do so in as much comfort as possible, surrounded by family.
Our expert staff and trained volunteers provide clinical, emotional, and practical support for families across north and central London and Herts Valley. We carefully adapt our support for every child and offer it wherever it is required – whether in their home, their community, or at our state-of-the-art children's hospice building, The Ark, in Barnet.
At present, we care for over 350 children who live with 132 different conditions. 78% have a disability, and 55% are below the age of five. No child or condition is too complex. Babies, children, and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions can be in our care for many years before they die or transition to adult services.
Our new three-year strategy, 'Making the Most of Every Day', puts children and families at the centre of everything we do. It's our roadmap to providing the best possible quality of life and experience of death for the babies, children, and young people we support. We need to ensure that our commitment to this core mission remains unwavering as we scale up. During this period, we also plan to double the number of those benefiting from our services, raise our profile, diversify our income and renew our efforts to ensure we are a supportive and inclusive employer and service provider.
93% of our staff and volunteers say they feel like they are making a difference, compared to a national average of 92% of hospice workers.
95% of staff and volunteers say they were proud to work for Noah's Ark Children's Hospice, compared to a national average of 93% of hospice workers.
To help drive our ambitious and exciting strategy forward, we are now seeking an experienced Director of People to provide strategic leadership across the organisation and motivate and develop an emergent HR team. We are open to hearing from candidates from any background. It is not essential to have prior knowledge or experience of the hospice sector. What is more critical is that our Director of People can recognise and successfully manage the careful balance between strategic delivery and day-to-day operational demands in a lean organisation. Being able to drive strategic development, innovation, and change whilst also being prepared and willing to roll their sleeves up as required.
We are seeking an exceptional people leader; someone professional, empathetic, and supportive, well-versed in developing the capability of their team and bringing energy, gravitas, and high levels of emotional intelligence. Responsible for all aspects of HR and volunteer management, the ideal candidate will bring a range of strategic and operational HR experience across a broad remit, including the ability to work confidently with a board of trustees.
Above all else, you will be driven to make a difference for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and intrinsically aligned to our values. These values shape and underpin absolutely everything we do at Noah's Ark Children's Hospice.
