As our Head of External Affairs, you will be responsible for leading our external relations strategy, overseeing the development and execution of communications, public affairs, media relations, and government engagement efforts.
This role aims to enhance the organisation's reputation, build strategic partnerships, and advocate for policy positions that align with the organisation's mission and goals.
Reporting directly to the Chief of Professional Standards, Policy and External Affairs (PSEA), the Head of External Affairs will ensure consistent messaging to all external stakeholders, including the media, government bodies, and the community.

Reporting into Melbourne, this role can be based in any of our capital city offices throughout Australia.

Your key duties will include: Strategic leadership and planning, including the development and implementation of a comprehensive external affairs strategy that supports CPA Australia's strategic priorities.
Media Relations and Communication by selecting, supporting, and promoting key spokespersons representing CPA Australia in media interviews, public speaking engagements, and other external forums.
Codesign and support a government relations strategy to build and maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal government officials.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that impact CPA Australia, providing timely analysis and strategic recommendations.
Advocate for policy positions that support CPA Australia mission, working closely with internal teams to communicate and promote policy briefs and position papers.
Serve as the lead point of contact for managing high-profile issues and crises that require public or media response.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing external affairs team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Work across the business to co-develop an integrated campaign approach to Tier 1 events and enhance the impact of our activities and products.
About You Degree qualified, you have extensive experience in external relations, public affairs, media relations, and/or government affairs.
You are experienced in managing relationships with media outlets, government agencies, and community organisations.
You pride yourself on your ability to develop and implement external relations strategies that enhance organisational reputation.
You enjoy working with a diverse range of stakeholders and have a coaching and consultative approach.
You have a proven track record of leading and motivating a team, with experience in budget management.
