Job summary Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC) are the Lead Provider of the West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative (WMCPC) bringing together integrated provision of specialist inpatient mental health, learning disability and autism services, for young people aged 13-18.
The Toucan West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative (WMCPC) is seeking to recruit a Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist who is committed to working with children and young people with complex mental health needs.
This post will provide the medical leadership within a forming team who are transforming access to T4 services.
The successful candidate will work within Toucan WMCPC Eating Disorder Intensive In reach Team (ED-IIT) and the newly re purposed Referral Coordination Hub (RCH) inpatient gatekeeping & assessment service (in hours).
There will be opportunities to contribute to shaping the services further and providing leadership across these pathways.
Main duties of the job The Consultant will provide clinical duties supporting access assessments for referred CYP.
Taking a lead role with a strong team of clinical nurse specialists you will be providing clinical expertise and a coordinated approach to undertaking psychiatric & medical risk management of CYP referred to T4.
The Consultant will join the RCH and ED-IIT team, contributing to the ongoing development of the exciting transformation of these services.
The successful candidate will lead the service evaluation and research related to relevant clinical areas working with the Research and Innovation Hub.

Job description Job responsibilities 1.
Consultant Psychiatrist input and gatekeeping to the RCH and EDIIT.
To assess and treat patients including those with eating disorders and co-morbid mental health disorders.
This may include: - Medical assessment of patients.
- Psychiatric assessment including eating disorder and non-eating disorder psychopathology.
- Formulation of complex cases with medical and psychiatric needs.
- Risk assessment and management for the medical and psychiatric components of the disorder.
- Taking a leading role in the monitoring and treatment of physical complications of eating disorders in collaboration with other health care professionals (dieticians, physicians, paediatricians, general practitioners, etc).
- Treating and monitoring of psychiatric aspects of mental illness, including core psychopathology and psychiatric co-morbidities 3.
A further component of the post is to work closely with regional Psychiatric inpatient units, building positive working relationships, contributing to admission planning, and safe discharge planning, with other members of the WMCPC team.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with medical colleagues at BWC and local DGHs to develop a pathway to safely manage patients who are physically compromised due to their eating disorders, alongside the intensive ED in reach approach.

The post holder will be required to be approved under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act (MHA).
He / She will be expected to be able to undertake MHA assessments as appropriate in the management of eating disorders.

Working in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team and provide clinical and medical leadership within the eating disorder team.
He/she will provide supervision to any junior medical staff allocated to the team.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the consultant on- call rota.
Contribute to WMCPC research and development.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered medical practitioner (GMC) Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification Desirable Other relevant clinical or academic qualifications Experience of leadership position KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE Essential Higher training in Child & Adolescent or Adult Psychiatry in approved training posts for a minimum of three years Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, CCT or within 6 months of a CCT Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act Approved Clinician status Desirable Specialist training and experience in the management of eating disorders Experience of assessment of CYP in crisis PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE Essential Ability to supervise and train junior medical staff Ability to work with patients aged 13-18 Ability to take a lead in multidisciplinary team working A broad range of experience in Child & Adolescent or Adult psychiatry and working with the multi-disciplinary teams Experience of assessment, treatment and medical monitoring of patients with an eating disorder Experience of working in a community mental health setting Able to meet duties under the MHA, including patients with Eating Disorders Experience of carrying out clinical audit and research.
