Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, enthusiastic, innovative and hardworking team of paediatric orthopaedic surgeons within a leading tertiary paediatric centre, rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
The Paediatric Orthopaedic team at Birmingham Children's Hospital provide secondary level paediatric orthopaedics services to the children and young people of Birmingham, and tertiary care to those in the wider region and beyond.
In addition, we support the care of children with complex health needs, working closely with colleagues from other specialties.
This post represents an expansion of the substantive paediatric orthopaedic team to meet increasing demand.
You will be joining a group of seven established Paediatric Orthopaedic consultants.
The team includes two foundation year doctors, four Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, four middle grade trainees from the Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Program, a Trust Grade doctor, two Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellows, a CESR trainee from an adjacent region and a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Clinical experience Training and experience in paediatric orthopaedics, both elective and trauma.
Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship of at least 6 months duration.
Post CCT level experience in the orthopaedic management of children with neuromuscular disorders and foot and ankle disorders Experience in the orthopaedic management of children with arthrogryposis (essential) and spina bifida (desirable) Main duties of the job The Paediatric Orthopaedic team provides secondary care including outpatient, urgent care and inpatient services to a catchment population of 450,000, representing approximately 45% of the population of the City of Birmingham.
Our clinical work offers huge diversity, encompassing the full breadth of paediatric orthopaedics, including both elective and trauma, with the only exception currently of pelvic fracture fixation.Birmingham Children's Hospital, is the Paediatric Major Trauma Centre for the West Midlands.
The department welcomed the arrival of colleagues from the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Paediatric Orthopaedic Oncology Service, and the Paediatric Spinal Deformity service in 2019.We pride ourselves on the high quality of our clinical care, leadership, quality improvement and innovation, pastoral development of a multi-professional team and - above all - on our team-working and cohesion.The post holder will be based at Birmingham Children's Hospital, but must expect to hold regular elective clinics, and possibly theatre lists, at one or more of the surrounding hospitals to whom we provide out-reach services.
They will participate in the 1 in 8 on call rota at BCH where, in addition to their elective work, they will undertake regular weekday morning Fracture Clinics and Trauma Lists.

Job description Job responsibilities There is a regular teaching and audit commitment.
The new appointee will be obliged to participate in the training of the middle grade and junior trainees.
The appointee will be expected to take an active interest in conducting research as well as presenting and publishing relevant clinical findings and research appointee will be expected to work very closely with their colleagues to deliver this dedicated service to children and their carers.
Close communication within the team is fundamental to the delivery of this service, resulting in the pooling of expertise and post holder will be expected to take part in the delivery and development of clinical services within the Trusts Service and Financial Framework and in line with the Trusts clinical post holder will also be expected to participate in the activities of appropriate Departmental, Directorate or Trust Committees and Working Groups as required.Secretarial support for work undertaken at BCH will be provided by the BCH Orthopaedic Secretarial Team.
Relevant secretarial support for out-reach clinics and/or lists will be provided by and at the respective Trusts.Applicants should possess FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent, be registered with the General Medical Council and be eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register at the time of interview.
The successful applicant would start as soon as possible, after appointment.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full GMC registration Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview An appropriate higher - Orthopaedic surgical qualification.
Desirable Higher Degree (MD, PhD, etc) Clinical experience Essential Training and experience in paediatric orthopaedics, both elective and trauma.
Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship of at least 6 months duration.
-Post FRCS Ortho experience of the orthopaedic management of children with neuromuscular disorders and children with foot and ankle disorders Post FRCS Ortho experience of the orthopaedic management of arthrogryposis in children Desirable Post FRCS Ortho experience of the orthopaedic (non-spinal) management of children with spina bifida ATLS/APLS Commitment Essential -To be involved actively in day to day management of orthopaedic patients within the Trust.

Evidence of subspecialty training in this area.
-To participate in specialty and directorate activities.
-Evidence of CPD Research Essential -A proven interest and experience in audit, research and teaching Desirable Previous Personal Research Experience Specify specific issues of interest if relevant
