Job summary The ABUHB CONNECT Children's Weight Management Service was the first in Wales and currently includes a Specialist Dietitian, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Physician, Therapy Assistant Practitioner, and this Paediatric Practitioner Psychology post.
The MDT supports children and their families to manage their weight and wellbeing through individualised interventions delivered via one to one, group, face to face, and virtual clinics depending on the needs of the child, young person, and their family.The team enjoy the benefits of working flexibly with a mixture of at base, at home and in clinics across the Health Board.
Main duties of the job The Paediatric Practitioner Psychologist post offers an exciting opportunity to join an established Children's Weight Management Service working alongside existing psychology posts in the Adult Weight Management team and within a supportive and innovative Paediatric Multidisciplinary team.
We are looking for a clinician who is motivated and highly empathetic with experience working with children with chronic conditions and their families.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

There is an opportunity to build upon the existing psychological care model, with direct client work, consultancy, service improvement, training and research and audit.The CONNECT service sits alongside the established Adult Weight Management Service and offers a variety of development opportunities both within the service and in the wider Health Board.
There is also an active professional network for practitioner psychologists working in South Wales in Childrens Weight Management services.
Continuing Professional development is highly valued within the service and so workplans are designed to ensure time as well as opportunity to grow professionally.The successful applicant will have professional support from the Lead of the Paediatric Psychology Service.
This is an exciting time to be joining ABUHB as there is a growing Paediatric Psychology Service, with psychologists, in ARFID, Diabetes, Chronic Conditions and General Paediatrics.
The Paediatric Psychology Service is part of the wider Child and Family Psychology Service and there are lots of opportunities to access training, ongoing professional development and develop specialist interests.
Person Specification Qualifications and/or Knowledge Essential Registered with the HCPC as a qualified Clinical Psychologist Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent accredited by the BPS Honors degree in Psychology (giving eligibility for BPS graduate membership) Training in clinical supervision Experience Essential 3 year doctorate training across a range of client groups but must include children significant post qualification clinical experience working with children with chronic health conditions completed at least 10 training days per year, on courses relevant to the provision of services to children and young people with physical health problems up-to-date on current clinical practice in Clinical Psychology and in Physical Health Services relating to children and young people Experience of delivering psychological interventions in a group setting Has begun to develop special expertise in a relevant clinical area and to have undergone or is undergoing post qualification training in it as part of the CPD process Aptitude and Abilities Essential Detailed knowledge of at least one therapeutic orientation related to the needs of obese children and young people.
Ability to assess, interpret, formulate and intervene in situations where the material is highly complex, and where there are a range of possible options, where different courses of action could be taken and where expert opinions may differ.
Ability to plan and organise complex activities or programmes, which may be service or client focussed, and may have long-term implications requiring ongoing monitoring and adjustment.
Ability to provide direction through supervision, teaching and training to other psychologists, disciplines and agencies.
Possess a working knowledge of strategies, policies and procedures relevant to working with Children and families To be aware of race and cultural issues in professional practice Has a good grasp of the main Professional Issues effecting Clinical Psychology in the NHS and is familiar with key strategic documents relevant to child and adolescent mental health services and children with chronic health conditions
