Job summary The post holder will assist the Director of Midwifery and Head of Midwifery in the development of the professional midwifery agenda to achieve consistency of professional practice and high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus.
Leading the directorate in Clinical Governance and risk management, the post holder will ensure quality assurance, achieving safety and clinical governance objectives within the Maternity Directorate to meet the wider national ambition and maternity safety agenda.
Main duties of the job Based at Birmingham Women's Hospital site, with a need for visibility amongst clinical and operational teams, the post may also require travel to sites across the region when required ( Birmingham Children's Hospital and Local Maternity and Neonatal System partners).
The post holder will be responsible for the leadership and operational management of the maternity Risk and Governance Team, working collaboratively with the Obstetric Lead to drive the maternity safety agenda.
They will be responsible for oversight of the maternity specific patient experience team; incidents and risk management team; guidelines and audit with direct line management responsibility for the Digital midwife, as outlined in the organisational structure chart.
Working collaboratively with members of the multi-professional team is key to this role to ensure safety actions are embedded to elicit improvements, and positive practice is recognized, celebrated and emanated.
The post holder will participate in the operational manager on-call rota for BWC (site based).

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered Midwife with current NMC Registration.
Bachelors Level Degree, or equivalent Root cause analysis training (or equivalent) Desirable Masters, or working towards Management Qualification Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent Subject matter qualification Knowledge and Nature of Experience Essential Experience in a senior midwifery post at Band 7 or above Experience in leading projects Experience in ensuring robust Clinical Governance strategy is in place in Women's Services Desirable Proven experience of service development and delivery and business planning Experience in change management Analytical and Judgment Skills Essential Experience of data analysis, interpretation, understanding, and drawing accurate conclusions to inform and include in reports Ability to critically analyse complex information prepared by others Ability to identify the role of human factors in any situation and adapt approaches accordingly Ability to manage conflict, identify stress in others, and the need to step in or change approach Able to create, develop and implement patient information and oversee this at clinical level Able to articulate information that may be complex in nature ( audit results, investigation reports, new guidelines etc) to wide audiences of varied backgrounds/ professional levels Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge Essential Able to conduct investigations and draw conclusions and make recommendations for Practice, conduct, sickness and absence and capability.
Able to plan, organise and chair meetings ensuring action plans are in place Desirable Awareness of current midwifery research and consequences to practice Evidence of ability to deal effectively with difficult people or performance issues Personal Skills Essential Knowledge of IT systems at operational level.
