We are seeking a thoughtful and skilled Clinical Director to help provide clinical insights for our PCN. The CD will work in close partnership with our PCN Managing Director (MD) and wider management team to ensure we meet the goals/objectives set out by the board and member practices.
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for someone with strong clinical experience to take on a leadership role, helping to build out an impactful at-scale healthcare service for a population of over 80,000 patients in one of the most interesting, diverse areas of London.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will:
Provide clinical input / insight as we design and evaluate servicesOffer clinical support and advice to PCN Management and BoardLead clinical supervision and workforce development for PCN staffEnsure the PCN is meeting key contract and system requirementsDevelop relationships, represent the PCN and help bring together wider stakeholdersThe right candidate will demonstrate excellent clinical skills, brilliant communication, analytical thinking and financial literacy. Youll need to be confident, proactive, adaptable and resilient.
You should have a strong understanding of GP Primary Care and the wider NHS system (incl. ICBs and PCNs). If you have experience working locally that will be helpful, but its not required.
It is a key role requirement that you are a practicing qualified clinician who is currently working or would be happy to work in a member practice in the PCN.

Term and reviews: This is a two-year fixed-term post, with the position being subject to an annual review after an initial 6-month probationary review.
Key responsibilities: Providing clinical insight into the design, development and evaluation of PCN servicesOffering clinical support and advice to PCN Management and Board in matters ranging from the granular and specific to the macro and strategicWorking in close partnership with the PCN MD, who is responsible for delivering the strategic and operational management of the PCNClinical supervision of the staff working for the PCN (either in salaried/permanent roles or those in freelance/locum roles)Ensuring the PCN and its staff are meeting key system requirements and best practice guidelinesProviding leadership on workforce development, through assessment of clinical skill mix and development of network workforce strategyDeveloping relationships across practices, the PCN and the wider landscape (including ICB / Place teams) to help us meet objectivesRepresenting the PCN, where required, in appropriate forums e.g. ICB meetings + feeding back to practices and the PCN where relevantFostering a culture of constant quality improvement to ensure our services are meeting the needs of patients and practicesSupport work on maximising value (achieving best quality for least cost) in particular working with the PCN on referral rates, unwarranted clinical variation, effective prescribing and financial efficiencies.Being up to date on national and local requirements for our PCN ensuring to separate nice to have from mandatory asksEnsuring were meeting our requirements under the DES and that you as CD are meeting your obligations under the DESTo carry out any other reasonable requests by PCN board majorityPerson SpecificationQualificationsAny appropriately qualified clinician who is currently working or would be happy to work in a member practice of the PCNKnowledge and SkillsA strong knowledge and interest in GP Primary CareAn understanding of the NHS systems including ICBs/PCNsExcellent clinical skills the ability to work independently at the top of your license and to support others to do the sameBrilliant communication and political intelligence able to lead and motivate staff across the PCN, plus build strong relationships with PCN practicesProblem solver - ability to analyse complex situations, develop innovative solutions and present solutions clearly and conciselyOrganised and able - excellent organisational and time management skills to ensure you can meet your requirements in the limited time availableFinancially literate - understanding of budget and data to ensure we can work most efficiently and effectively for our patients and practicesExperienceExperience supervising clinical staffExperience in clinical service assessment and quality improvementExperience working within North LewishamExperience working in a PCN or similar at-scale settingExperience in strategic planning and leadership within primary careExperience with a variety of stakeholders and reporting to a boardDisclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
