Job Title: Category Development Manager – Renewables, Sustainability, and Energy Transition Location: United Kingdom coverage, home based with a need to visit Hull periodically Company: MKM Building Supplies Reports to: Group Procurement Director Department: Category Team – Central Support Job Overview: As the Category Development Manager for Renewables, Sustainability, and Energy Transition, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the growth of these key categories within our builders' merchant business.
You will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that align with the company's vision of being a leader in the UK's shift towards sustainable building practices and energy solutions.
Your role will focus on identifying opportunities, building supplier relationships, and ensuring that our product offerings meet the evolving needs of our customers and the industry.
Key Responsibilities: Category Strategy Development: Lead evolution and implementation of the category strategy for Renewables, Sustainability, and Energy Transition.
Analyse market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities within these categories.
Engage with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Digital, ESG and our Oceanair business, to align category strategies with overall business objectives.
Product and Supplier Management: Identify and source new products and technologies in the renewable energy, sustainability, and energy transition space.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to secure the best offerings for our customers.
Monitor and manage supplier performance, ensuring product quality and availability.
Branch and Business Development Support: Work closely with the Branch Directors and their teams to provide them with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively sell renewable and sustainable products.
Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement campaigns that promote the category and educate customers on the benefits of sustainable building practices and energy solutions.
Create and deliver training materials and presentations for internal teams and customers to drive category awareness and sales.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Regularly analyse sales data, customer feedback, and market trends to measure category performance and identify areas for improvement.
Provide detailed reports and insights to senior management on category performance, market conditions, and future opportunities.
Innovation and Industry Leadership: Stay informed about the latest developments in renewable energy, sustainability, and energy transition technologies.
Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and seminars, establishing the business as a thought leader in the space.
Drive innovation within the category by identifying and introducing cutting-edge products and solutions to the market.
Qualifications and Experience: Proven experience in category management, product management, or a similar role within the builders' merchant or construction industry, with a focus on renewable energy, sustainability, or energy transition.
Strong knowledge of renewable energy products, sustainable building materials, and the energy transition landscape in the UK.
Excellent communication, and relationship-building skills.
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and market trends to make informed business decisions.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful business development plans across a wide branch network.
Passion for sustainability and the drive to promote environmentally responsible practices within the construction industry.
