Team Context The Business Control (BC) Team is part of the wider Business Control & Governance (BC&G) function and has been established as a Line 1 Risk and Control focused capability within Phoenix Asset Management ("AM").
The team is responsible for providing a holistic view of financial and non-financial risks across the AM function and for supporting AM colleagues in the application of and adherence to the Groups Risk Management Framework.
The RoleThe Business Control Associate will work closely with both the Head of Capital Markets Business Control and respective Capital Markets stakeholders, overseeing a broad range of activities that contribute to the continuous improvement of Asset Management's Risk and Control environment.
These activities are aimed at ensuring risks to our business are understood, plans to remediate those risks are in place and being tracked and that senior stake holders are suitably well informed.
The successful candidate will be recognised internally as an SME on Risk & Control Governance as it's applied to AM, with Line 1 business partnering and collaboration a core activity.
They will represent AM in ongoing interactions and collaboration with colleagues across the 3 Lines of Defence (3 LOD), building strong relationships and facilitating risk reviews, audits and other strategic activities as required by the Group.
Key Responsibilities Risk Oversight Maintain an accurate record of the AM population of risks and controls in the Phoenix Group risk and control systems (GCM).
Mapping of Group Risk Policy Control Objectives to the AM Key Controls that mitigate these.
Ongoing oversight of the AM risk universe, ensuring key controls that mitigate these are attested to by relevant business owners via the quarterly Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process Support in the documenting and monitoring of existing and emerging risks within the AM business and provide SME support in the design of high-quality controls to mitigate those risks Act as Business Control lead and SME on one or more Risk Framework themes, for example Business Continuity, End User Computing Governance, Risk Champion optimisation, GCM optimisation etc.
Co-ordinating the quarterly Risk and Control assessment process on behalf of Capital Markets.
Audit and Assurance Collaborate with AM teams, Group Internal Audit and Line 2 in facilitating the closure of audit and other actions assigned to AM in response to business reviews Support in the AM assurance programme, undertaking regular reviews of the AM Risk and Control Environment Ensuring that audit and other control findings are tracked and overseeing closure by management owners, escalating where necessary Change Programmes Support Phoenix AM strategic change programmes and projects and help deliver a market leading asset management function within the UK's largest long-term savings and retirement business Management Information / Data Oversee the production of regular MI in relation to the AM Risk and Control Environment What we're looking for Minimum Requirements Experience and Personal Attributes (Essential) Experience with Asset Management functional areas and a broad understanding of "front to back" trade flow processes and associated control activities Ability to evaluate audit and assurance reviews, with strong analytical skills and critical thinking capability Demonstrated experience of building strong, reliable relationships and the ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, including the ability to work on multiple workstreams while ensuring integrity, accuracy, and timeliness Experience (Desirable) Experience of managing operational risk within 1st / 2nd / 3rd Line of Defence (LoD) in a financial services setting Proficient level ofMS Excel (Intermediate), Word and PowerPoint Qualifications Undergraduate degree or equivalent CFA Charter (or equivalent industry qualification) or desire to work towards one Personal Attributes / Skills Ability to learn new systems and concepts in a timely manner Comfortable taking ownership of workstreams and managing stakeholders effectively Proactive can-do attitude and keeps abreast of market trends Team player who is creative, solution driven and results-driven We want to hire the whole version of you.We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
