Job overviewApplications are invited for a dentist to join our Special Care Dentistry team.
SCD is one of the specialised services provided by the integrated Dental Hospital and Community Dental Services within the Dental Division of BCHC.
Based in the Birmingham and Black Country area, you will be working as part of a consultant led team which includes Specialists, Senior Dental Officers and DCPs.
There will be an opportunity to develop clinical competencies in all aspects of SCD including basic level IV sedation.
This may include DES (Dentist with Extended Skills) status once the relevant requirements are released by the Royal Colleges.
This is a permanent role - 0.4 WTE - 2 days per week.
Main duties of the jobThis interesting and varied role includes providing dental care for adults with disabilities, medical and mental health problems as well as severe dental phobia.
It also includes provision of domiciliary care and responsibility for supervising dental students for which an additional allowance will be paid.
You will need a good awareness of the SCD specialty and some basic experience of working with the above patient groups.
You will need experience in oral surgery ideally attained through a hospital-based oral surgery post of at least 6 months.
You will also need to demonstrate the ability to work as a team player and on your own initiative.
You must also have full GDC registration, have entered or be eligible to be entered onto the local NHS performers list, and the flexibility to work at different sites in the Black Country and Birmingham area if required.
