Job summary University Hospitals Birmingham is host to one of the UKs largest and comprehensive Audiology services operating across four acute Hospitals and multiple sites within the community.
As service we are recognised for excellence and provide the unique opportunity to work in a service alongside colleagues recognised nationally and internationally as experts within the field of Audiology and Otology.We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to take on the challenge of leading a key area of our Audiology service.
Under the strategic direction of the Consultant Clinical Scientist/Head of Audiology services, the post holder will operate within a new integrated service model , working in partnership with other members of the senior clinical and operational team to lead and develop the provision of routine and complex diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology services at the Heartlands , Good Hope and Solihull sites.
Main duties of the job The post holder will demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise within the specialism, providing advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families and carers.
They will have overall managerial responsibility for a defined group of Healthcare Scientists to include, Clinical Scientists, Physiologists, Therapists and Support Staff within the field of Audiology .This role will hold responsibility for delivering high quality services in line with the clinical governance and quality agenda.
They will lead the development and implementation of accreditation within the specialism, ensuring the on-going development of a strong governance structure to improve clinical practice and standards of care.
This will include the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.In addition to the clinical responsibilities, the post holder will take a Senior operational role within Audiology.
This will include responsibility for monitoring and managing activity, waiting times and financial performance, the operational management, recruitment and selection of staff and the day to day management and delivery of diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology services at QEHThe post holder's job plan should deliver approximately 50-60% clinical component and 40-50% related to operational service management, education & research.

Job description Job responsibilities *Please Note : For a detailed job description for this vacancy, please see attached Job Description* Person Specification Qualifications Essential * in Audiology (or equivalent level).
* Audiology or an in a related subject ( management, audiological rehabilitation or equivalent level of experience) *Registered as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC whilst adhering to the code of conduct for Clinical Scientists OR Registration as an Audiologist, registered with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists or the Academy of Healthcare Science *Research experience within the field of audiology *Significant demonstrable Senior management and leadership experience within an NHS organisation.
Desirable *Doctoral level qualification or Higher Specialist Scientific Training Programme (HSST) *Recognised qualification in management or leadership at masters level.
*Recognised qualification in project management.
*BSL qualification.
*Registered on the Higher Specialist Scientific Training Register (HSSR) with the Academy of Healthcare Science or working towards HSST equivalence *Publication(s) in peer reviewed international journals Experience Essential *Demonstrable experience of operational and clinical management of an Audiology service *Extensive experience of the audiology profession.
*Specialised / Expert experience gained in one or more areas of audiology ( paediatrics, adult rehabilitation or audio vestibular) *Experience of managing staff, PDR, performance management and job planning.
*Extensive experience of the IQIPS accreditation process *Extensive knowledge of national issues and priorities within Audiology Desirable *Experience of working with professional body in an Audiology capacity.
*Direct experience of working with patients with complex hearing conditions and Auditory Implants Experience within the commercial or third sector Additional Criteria Essential *Ability to travel within region and nationally as required for the role.
*Flexible approach to working practice adapting to requirements of the service and organisation
